What are your favorite books? What are the books that you absolutely hate?

The last book I remember actually reading was The Da Vinci Code. I thought it brought up some intresting points.
The latest book I can remember hating is Catcher in the Rye. Was there anyone who actually liked that book?

lol, watch this board be empty b/c nobody reads anymore :p

Anyone get the feeling Alex only reads books he has to because of school? Lol.
Death of a Salesman was a play, anyway.

I absolutely -love- His Dark Materials. Fantastic books.
Oh, and The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix, too.

I like Catcher in the Rye! It's a great book ^_^

I've had so little work at school this year, so I've really caught up reading books. My favourite books are.. ooh, the Portrait of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Tis fab because it's so dark, but still full of wit. Will Self did an updated 1980s version full of gay men, which is also really good....

And I love One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest because it's funny in places with great characters.. and it's really sad and touching at the end o-o Oh! And anything by Jeffery Eugenides. You guys have good tastes.. Philip Pullman and Garth Nix are fun to read :3 Death of a Salesman isn't so bad.. not compared to the Crucible anyway.. damn drama!

I don't like reading really popular books like Da Vinci Code, but I'm reading Labyrinth by Kate Mosse at the moment (which is kinda similar) and it's really good. Despite being historically inaccurate :p

Books I hate? Anything by Thomas Hardy because it's too much like work to read the damn things. And everyone dies. Depressing books are bad. I also don't really like Trainspotting. It's the book the film was based on ( and I loved the film), but it's really hard to read because it's written how Scots would say it.. so you have to read it aloud to have any kind of idea what's going on. And then you look like a damn fool on the bus *nods sadly*

lol, okay I may be the only one who didnt like Catcher in the Rye then :p

Dan Brown's (author of The Da Vinci Code) books are very repetitive, if anyone has read some of his other books they all have kinda the same story line but with different scenarios.

    Bruce Coville's Book of Monsters

I'm gonna take that book to the grave

    my favorite book from kiddom

In 5th grade I read every single book that Bruce Coville wrote :p I loved them all, exept maybe one :)

Books to hate: Anything by Willa Cather, As I Lay Dying, Mrs. Dalloway. (all required readings).

Books I enjoyed recently: Old Kingdom series (in the middle of re-reading Lirael for about the 5th time), The Old Man and The Sea, and His Dark Materials are all good. Harry Potter was great in the begining, but its starting to fall off. A Clockwork Orange was awesome as well (once you understand the slang).

Neutral: I just can't seem to get into Catcher in the Rye. Its just a strange style of writing.

I like that style of writing in Catcher.. it's like Bukowski in a way, and that's never a bad thing ^_^

But Clockwork Orange is just amazing.. you have the taste :D
