Hey! Well I was thinking:

You know how you can donate 1,5,10, and $20? I was thinking about a seperate forum, just for payed members...It would help server costs, and posibly pay the staff.

Im around a LOT of forums, and it would be like a "Premium Membership", "VIP Member", etc.

Most cost around 2.50 to $5.

Like in my GFX forums, Premium Members contribute to the community by giving free psds (Photoshop files), and other exciting stuff. Mostly for a +rep, to show your respected. You'd be amazed how many resources people can donate! Maybe programs for Premiums only, maybe even some GFX stuff. It would be kinda like the Private section, but for some people that dont have the time to be THAT active, or no skill in programming/gfx whatsoever (lol), They still have a chance to be "up" there with the fellow members.

BTW: Im not sure if this is with the payed memberships, I all see for the description is

"Help Neocodex pay for its costs of running by donating (money amount)"

I also think it would be a brillient idea for the NeoCodex server costs.

First, that was hard to read. Second, we have a private area for that --- what would go in this forum? Garbage? That would contradict the point of "Donation". Its like buying yourself into the codex ranks. Bad idea.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, the only thing one gets from donating is the graphic plate under their userinfo and the gratitude of the site. A separate forum seems quite erroneous.

A seperate section for donators is a bit rediculous. Possibly pay for use of certain programs but then Codex is no longer non-profit and TNT can take us down I think.

If someone would buy a paid memebrship where programs and stuff would be there, then there would be point of making private rank and those members wont be active they would just buy membership[ and thats it..

one of the main precepts of this forum is that you cannot buy yourself into any area or rank, we are more of a meritocracy than any other type of place

donations are received with many thanks as it means the board can flourish, however if ranks were up for sale it would totally undermine what's been built up by lots of people's hard work and dedication

And it seems Codex is in good condition financially so there really isn't a need to change our donation system in my opinion.

Dude, if you want to give me money, I'm all for it. I just don't think that a paid forum is a good idea.

We do operate mainly on donations, and some from the adds at the top of the page. But that's the thing. They're donations. No one is purchasing anything, be it rank, forums, or .psd files as you pointed out. We strive to maintain a close knit community, and if we hand things out to those who can pay for them, it just isn't fair to those who can't.

I think you've gathered by now that people aren't agreeing with your idea, and neither am I, but I'd just like to say that people aren't always so harsh , only in this forum Don't be scared off!

no no no lol we like codex to be tottalllllly free to all people. donating is totally up to the individual we apprecaite donations as they come wayy in handy. but we ask that you do it only if you can we dont want anyone to feel obliged to donate. and we definatley want to keep everything free of charge so no paid forum sorry

Codex (all parts of it) is, and will always remain free; end of story.

The amount we are getting in allows us to make ends meet with no problems. When it becomes a problem, we will then figure something out.

I think that this is a bad idea as well. If we start giving people the option of paying for neocodex's resources, we'll have a TON of leechers, and there will be less control over who gets the programs, files, respect, etc. I think the donation system is better, as people can't just buy their way to the top of the chain here.

Well, I think it wouldn't be too bad. Just like a little general chat area where all the rich codex members could chat. No programs or anything like that.

Haha... yeah... except that sadly, I personally doubt that we'd get more donators for a chat forum than we already get. That is, if we only provide a chat forum.
