They dont need more than 1 billion. They could live a very comfortable life with as little as 10 million each.
Isn't that what Gates is leaving to all his kids? I am pretty sure it is 0.01 percent or something like that which equals out to ten million bucks a piece.
Dont get smart with me, I was just quoting the person above me. I was saying they dont need more than 1 billion. Did I ever say they didnt have more than 1 billion?
Would you rather him get dumb with you ? 0_o
LOL for ignorance.
Now if only the 200 billion spent on war went to charity...
Pretty much this war was charity. It is for the good rather you are smart enough to realize that or not.
What a guy. If I had that amount of money I don't think I'd be able to donate such a percent.
And just to add on which I don't think the quote mentioned but the 85% is actually going to be given to 5 seperate foundations and the majority going to gates'.
Yep 5 separate ones, but the majority "5/6th" of it will be going to the bill and melinda gates foundation.
I dont like how you had to bring Iraq up in a topic like this.
In all honesty, you had no reason to indroduce the war in Iraq into this topic. This whole situation could have been avoided had you not brought it up.
I doubt you have had any family members go over to Iraq- Have you? I did. My brother was stationed 60 miles NE of Baghdad at Camp Victory. If you want I can pull up some old emails and post photos. He spent over a year there, and when he came home he was still supporting the war effort. Why? Because we already got ourselves involved and now we must stay till we can reorganize their country. Once your there you know how bad the people in Iraq need us.
We did spend too much over there, however, and we will continue to spend more. A good article about the wasteful spending is found here. Although I do not agree with how the money was spent, I still support the war effort.
So fuck off
*claps* Your brother is a good man. It is amazing considering how many soldiers come home every day and how the majority still support the war. Why do stupid civilians not realize that there are reasons they still support the war?
I have every right to bring it up, and that doesn't justify you calling me a faggot, nor does it justify you becoming angry for any reason. I believe when we are talking large amounts of money, the war DOES fit in.
Also, I was born in Iraq, which YES could prove some sort of bias... but seriously, no one's lives have improved. The war in the US has resulted in civilians (including children) to be killed, triggered car bombings, and not to mentions the HEAPS of corrupt soldiers torturing innocent Iraqis.
Really, drop the whole pro-USA thing.
So you have a country who is ran by a dicator, doesn't have any form of "moral government" and have people who actually think blowing themself up is the way to god. This is a good government? If you truely belive so I think you should get closer to god.
Keep your meaningless arguments private. No one wants to hear it.

---------------------------------Now to actually talk about something with meaning in this post
It is simply amazing what both the Gates family and what Buffett has done. Hopefully they will push the boundaries of science as far as possible in as fast as possible. They have already accomplished a lot and hope to accomplish so much more. With the funding that they are offering it should be very easy to do. Some plans that they have are to help develop a cure for many diseases and to improve "public" schools inside the US.
It is nice to finally see a large charity that is dedicated to helping the US and not just every other country in the world.

I am pretty sure that is what he is leaving them *looks for topic*
I will update when I find the topic. Still ten million is more than enough for anyone. It will either provide a nice life for his kids or give his kids a very nice cushion to pursue a dream that could eventually make them more money. It is amazing that Gates doesn't appear as greedy as everyone had imagined. It seems that he is a better guy than we all thought.
I know a lot of people that were born in Iraq or in that general area, and they are ashamed of it O.o But it's nice that the donation of 37 billion did some good I guess?
Ashamed of where they were born? They should not be ashamed of that. It is their heritage and is a good one. Just had some problems like every other country. Hopefully one of these days Iraq will grow and become one of the leading countries as far as human rights go. Not just Iraq but all the countries that are still considered third world.

That was the point I made

If everybody had millions of dollars, nobody would work, everybody would starve adventually. But then there are those who will still work - who will then become the billionaires of society and then after 10 years or so it'll be back to normal

.
I don't really believe that. What about people like Gates and Buffet who are billionaires? They worked forever, and now after stuff like this It appears it may not have actually been all about the money, or maybe they just realize it isn't going to do them much good after they die.
I think many people would continue to work even if they where millionaires. Maybe it just wouldn't be for the same thing that they currently do and would most likely only turn to things that they truly enjoy.

Except human nature would prevent that from ever happening...The bottom line is that if the worlds wealth was spread equally, we'd all be happy.

Will doI'm looking to purchase my own country actually... eventually of course.. whenever any of you become (m/b)illionarres.. and care to get in on my own government style.. hit me up...
They became millionares by being greedy, but became great people by giving it away for great reasons.I can. Just because one rich guy gives all his money away doesn't mean they all will. Many are greedy, and that's how they became millionares. xP

Yes we can. Considering that most rich people would never do this xDYowza. I doubt much of anyone would donate that much of a percentage of their income ot a charity...

Ironic since I recall you calling someone a faggot earlier in the threadWho flamed? I would never flame, its just I felt like I was under attack for supporting something I believe in.

Well mabey this will encourage them to donate more.I can. Just because one rich guy gives all his money away doesn't mean they all will. Many are greedy, and that's how they became millionares. xP
Thanks for adding this. I was getting ready to close this topic.Try and cut the flaming down in here please as it was getting out of hand. Thanks.
Same here. However Microsoft is a different storyThe Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will be using their money to provide health care and technology to the poorer countries. As to Bill Gates being greedy, he has been quoted to say that he would not donate his money until he had time to know exactly what he was doing with it, which is what he will devote more time to as Gates stepped down from President of Microsoft.

Same. Whenever a billionaire is attacked by the media or community as to being greedy, they'll quickly donate to some charity without research just to clear their name. Even if they weren't really greedy, it's a cop out that I think in creating your own Foundation avoids and proves a true care for what you can do with your money.Same here. However Microsoft is a different story
I think its really neat how Gates just doesnt make a donation to a charity but learns about what the money will actually do.

If I ever had that much, I would be drooling and I wouldn't know what to do with the money.
So if I was a millionaire/billionaire, I would probably donate most of it too
