When you want a motherboard you want a... fast one. Just because it makes all the processes in the computer happen. Transfers data, etc. Just look one with a good company and ask them questions about theirs and the competitors.

Look for one that supports AMD. Also, if you are expanding your harddrive space, get one with SCSI connections. No built in audio or video, that's just gay. Make sure it supports PCI, and AGP. That's about it.

i'm a big supporter of amd, but right now it loooks better to build a conroe system. i also think he would want pci-e since it's not being phased out like agp, and sata will give him a better price/performance ratio then scsi

I'd say ask for the best price/quality one in the store...

ANd also watch out if you're buying PCI, PCI-express or AGP, seeing if you have an AGP vid. card and you buy a PCI motherboard it wont work.

Okay. Thanks. How much do you figure a good one will cost?

@Cx323 Aiming for a socket a (if I don't get a socket A then I can't use the mobo until I get a new processor) one but any socket is good

in order of how good they are for overclocking:

    dfi lanparty nfii ultra b
    Abit NF7
    Abit AN7

If your not overclocking i would go with one of the abit's.
