Yes, I finally got around to watching it. Well actually, I'm still watching it right now. But uh... yeah why did this movie get so much acclaim or whatever? I'm not feeling particularly entertained seeing Jesus get the **** beat out of him, nor do I feel at all enlightened or spiritual.

It isn't about how he died, and how he was brutally murdered, it was about what he did. The fact he was a good philosopher, and the messiah to about a third of the entire earth is enough to be a good movie. That's why I love Lawrence of Arabia, because it's a 3 hour film about what he did, not just the complications he had to endure. If I did the Passion, I would do it in this order:

    1. Death of Jesus, Discussion between the followers
    2. Jesus' life
    3. Significant point in his life
    4. Before his death
    5. His Revival, and ascension to heaven

I've seen it and it's a sin in Islam to portray a holy figure such as a prophet like Jesus but to portray him being tortured is just terrible >_< and it seems to me like Mel Gibson just wanted to stir up some controversy and get people to watch it rather than actually preach the teachings of Jesus at all. dry.gif

No, Mel Gibson is a very devout catholic and he did it to spread the word of Jesus Christ. And also in the Christian's bible it tells us that is exactly how Jesus was treated before he died so it may be sacreligious to Muslims but to Christians that is exactly what happened. The whole purpose of the horrific whipping scene is to show that he did all of that to allow us sinners to go to heaven. Every sin that we do is basically another whip on his back. You see this is more of a Catholic belief than Protestant tongue.gif

But basically, Gene... that is not meant to be entertaining whatsoever. That isn't what the movie's about, silly. tongue.gif The movie was NEVER meant to be entertainment but instead a religious experience. Oh yes, and for those who want to see it... I would watch it with another person. Especially someone who you can squeeze their hand during the horrible parts. And I am one who never cries in movies and I will say... that several tears did certainly stream down my face.

Of course, but to show Jesus as being whipped and tortured is blasphemous in Islam, because it is said he rose to Heaven before he was set to be killed on the cross. But most Western Muslims are used to these kind of things, so it's no biggie.

I believe that this movie could have been presented in a better way. I probably feel different from the average devoted Christian because I'm an atheist, but the only thing that I got from this movie was that Jesus was beaten up and tortured until he nearly died. The movie should have focused more on what he actually did, not how he was tortured.

But the torture was pretty darn gruesome. -shiver-

Thats true but like Athean mentioned wouldn't it have been better to make a movie about the early life of Jesus when he was baptized and when he performed the miracles rather than a movie about the last 24 some hours of his life? Christians do believe thats what happened to Jesus but his early life would do better to preach to non believers rather than what Mel put on the screen.

I watched the last 20 min of it. I had to close my eyes when they were putting the nails in his hands *shivers*. Besides some of the scenes in Hostel(a movie I wish I never saw. Not because of the violence, but because it sucked tongue.gif ), that was the most graphic scene in cinema I've ever seen!
