QUOTE
SHEPHERDSTOWN, West Virginia (AP) -- A father and his two sons died Saturday in an apparent murder-suicide at Shepherd University, authorities said.

Douglas W. Pennington, 49, shot sons Logan, 26, and Benjamin, 24, before shooting himself with a .38 caliber revolver on the university campus, state police said. Both sons were identified as Shepherd students.

Police said the elder Pennington traveled to the campus to visit his sons, but offered no reason for the shootings.

The gunfire occurred about 2 p.m. ET in a parking lot, near residence halls on the campus's west side. The Penningtons were pronounced dead at local medical facilities.

"We are stunned to hear about this terrible tragedy," University President David Dunlop said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims."

University spokeswoman Valerie Owens described the campus as quieter than usual this weekend because many students have gone for the Labor Day holiday. About one-quarter of Shepherd's 4,000 students live in campus residence halls and apartments.

University counselors have been talking to students all afternoon and a formal counseling session on campus Saturday evening. Owens had no information on whether any students or faculty witnessed the shootings.

Shepherdstown is in eastern West Virginia, about 80 miles northwest of Washington

Topics on here get cheerier and cheerier...

If there was an equally as interesting article, but it was happy, I would've posted that instead of this

They don't say the reason behind why the guy shot himself and his sons. :/ What in the world could the reason have been?

I hate it how newspaper post such a big article on horrible things, and not on happy things, like a discovery of a new organism or how something is improving.

Create your own happy; the news is made to report the news, not to replicate happiness. Hell, the news has trouble even reporting the news, don't confuse its purpose any more for it.

Yeah... It's unfortunate that these things happen. :/

If the father was so unsatisfied about his life, why not simply kill himself instead of taking two lives with him? dry.gif

Taking Two lives with him was a bit harsh but his way of thinking may have been similiar to those Religious Radicals who believe wherever we go when we die is better than the world we live in now... he may have thought he was doing them a favor by killing them and bringing them into the after life... screwed up, i know but its all i could think of. blink.gif

I predict... and my explaination does not excuse his behavior in any way.. that he saw his sons doing behavior that he saw as self-destructive such as becoming crackheads or sleeping around that he felt he needed to kill his sons to put them out of his misery and decided to kill himself to atone for their sins. Just a theory though. Still pretty damn sick since hardly anyone's parents approve of their children's behavior in college! Hell... if my parents knew what I was doing they'd hate me >_>
