Very nice. Much better than I can accomplish of course but thats not going to help you is it?
Version 1 is much better. The word adds depth the the image and a reason to look at it.

I like it, but I think it would look better with a normal border and no scanlines. Text however, looks awesome.

And agreed left's better than the right, the right looks boring (1 Coulor) and the contrasted version doesnt look as nice
