Seeing the "Homeless" thread made me think about hitch-hikers. Do you ever pick them up?

My usual answer would be no, but I have picked them up once. I was at a Wendy's when three people walked over and asked if I knew where UWF (A college campus) was. They were exchange students that recently arrived so they were not familiar with the area. I told them where it was and they said "Its that far? We have already been walking for a long time." One of them was on crutches, too tongue.gif Turns out they had been walking for hours because someone told them it was a "short walk from their residence." Feeling bad for them I told them to hop in the car and I'd drive them the rest of the way. Had a nice chat with them, too, real good people.

They were not quite hitch-hikers though, they weren't looking for a ride, I offered tongue.gif But the point still stands about letting strangers into your car tongue.gif

What about you? Would you pick any hitch-hikers up?

There are loads in my area tongue.gif There are "hotspots" that you can always find them in. Then like in my case, sometimes they are not even looking for a ride but end up getting one.

I'm sure there are 'good' hitch-hikers out there, but I said no. It's just too risky.

I honestly wouldn't ever. I'm a bit of a snob I guess... I just simply cannot understand why you don't have like $20 (NZ) for a bus or to beg a friend for a ride. If you're the type of person who doesn't have ANY money, or ANY friends, then you're not the type of person I want to do a favour for.

When I go to NZ, you can forgot about me giving you a call angry.gif

Hitch hikers usually have an interesting story to tell tongue.gif . If they are off to somewhere in the direction I am headed, I'll usually give them a lift.

Never unless I know them WELL. I'm very paranoid and picking up hitchhikers is an easy way to be carjacked, raped, or mugged. There is no way in hell I'd pick up a stranger. You just... hear all these stories. I'm sure there are good people who ask for rides but I'd have to tell them I'm sorry and just can't do it.
