I rarely see a signature or artistic piece these days that doesn't involve a C4D. Why? What makes them so popular? They add a little bit of definition to the artwork their used for, but it's basically dumbing down skill.

Discuss. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

I'm personally against people using C4D renders if they weren't the creators of it; and I've never used a C4D render in any of my work so no claims of hypocrisy please. Too much credit for too little work - or at least people shouldn't post them for praise.

People who work with their own produce though (those who import substitute) are fine with me. I can't deny they give a good outcome, so if you make and use your own, good on you.

    Word.

I also agree with Euphoria, for once, lol. C4D doesn't always make the piece look good. In fact, there are tons of better alternatives. smile.gif

I completely agree. (Not just saying that because I haven't dont it before.)
It's just too simple to make.

now i cant just outright condem c4d use because i use them but ive been doiing gfx b4 people started using them in sigs and it is a simple alt. to great brush work and fliters but i dont like using them much because it makes it harder for people to develop other gfx skills such as brushing and render blending and filters but hey if it looks good it looks good lol

You could say the same about brushing. It was funny... my first sig I posted on this site was made with filters only and people pushed brushing in my face constantly. Granted, my first sig looked like shit, but even so there will ALWAYS be fads and people going about it the easy way.

And ZOMG... Urban and Euphy agreeing on something *tears come to eyes*

My apologies if I am wrong, though weren't you the one not too long ago criticizing Kitchiwa's work and saying it sucked because it had no C4D? rolleyes.gif

Use whatever you want, thats my policy as long as you don't rip someone elses work or layers of people's .psd file, its all good.

Mmm effect renders are easy to make, so i get bored, somtimes i make a shitty one, somtimes i use somone elses shitty one, but i dont use good ones because they steal the whole focus of a sig, i use distorts to make them good.

Yes.. a lot of people did, but they all did it horrible and it had no flow. And you do realize that most brushes are MADE from C4D right?

Its not so simple if you actually make it yourself. I am against people using C4Ds they havent made though.

It's easy to argue that it's wrong but it's really not so in my opinion. It's no more wrong than using brushes, precut renders, or stock photos.

Like those mentioned, some C4D renders were made for other people to utilize in signatures and it's an effective and simple method to create effects. In fact, I've used renders made by Xenocyde in a few of my signatures I made a while back, and to be frank- I sure as hell was not going to get a copy of Cinema4D, follow some tutorials to learn to create C4D renders, and then spend hours creating a render.. when in the end it will be 80% hidden, and not many will even realize the difference. Not necessary at all.

Ofcourse when you're making the pieces that revolve around your C4D render, that's a whole different story.

    Yep, my 2 cents.

hmm I quite disagree with that. It took quite a bit of time for me to get the desired effects in my short experience.

And creating renders is a whole different story.

Kamal, I criticized Kitchwa's work saying he should make his own C4D - that there were alternatives to it as well, but if he was going to use C4D he should make his own.

Psst, hope you accredited the guy who drew that hellfire warlock fanart, I believe Blizzard has the rights to those images when they post them as fanart.

Quite frankly, the Surprise signature I did (ie, the eye one, if any of you remember) had a C4D in it which I erased away over key locations. I used it for lightning. It's barely visible in the piece. I'm not sure if I was being lazy, but I tried it with a radial gradient and it turned out horrible. Concerning the effect I was going for, it literally took me 2 minutes to erase away key parts then set the layer opacity to 40%. You can get all these wonderful, fantastic effects from them, but as I see it, the more people that utilize the style, the worse it becomes. I'm very keen on the uniqueness of an individuals style. One could argue that the way they blend/brush etc creates differences in styles, but it's only a minor difference. By difference in styles, I mean like comparing one of my signatures to say, Balmung. If you look at his very technical oriented signatures with a very basic outline and flow (ie render, c4d, blending, c4d, blending) and then you look at mine which is somewhat more simple concerning nearly every aspect (ie, colors, form, presentation and blending). That's the sort of thing I wish people would decide for themselves, instead of going with whatever looks good and constantly whoring it until it gets the 'meh' effect.

Oh, and any of my thoughts about C4D are completely neutral if you create and manipulate the renders yourself. That's a great deal of skill in itself, so the way you use them or present them in signatures doesn't matter a thing to me, just that you created the render yourself earns a fair deal of respect from me.

You act like all I do, is slap on C4d and call it a day. I use filters like mad, perhaps more than C4D even. Please dont tell me how I create my signatures.

I'm not following. So you're completely against using C4Ds (if you didn't create them), yet you just admitted to using one yourself in a recent signature?

I can't see the skill aspect from using C4D's that you didn't create, that's what I'm trying to say.

Balmung: I admit, I am being a little bit stereotypical, but out of anybody else's signatures, I see remnants of C4D in yours the most. I'm not saying they look bad, infact, some of them are fantastic.

Whats wrong with C4D, making your own or using others(with permission) is fine, it still takes skill to get it to flow, u cant just get brush a background add a c4d and plop on a render, that would look shit, you have to blend the background and the render and then get/make a c4d that follows the flow, then add filters, C4Ds brighten up a piece, most people here who use C4d's use filters and alot of brushing aswell, i know i do

Ah I see.. That is true. I am usually proud when I finish a C4D. I like to show it, I dont like hiding it or making it add a small detail. Thanks I appreciate the compliment ^^

BTW I have helped Calum and Kitchwa both make sigs before, they can vouch that I use mostly filters =]
