I believe there from the plot (lost desert?? something to do with a treasure map). And also what could the range be on the prizes from like something worth 1 np to 100k?

It depends on your luck if it's worth it or not.
I had around 10 prize codes once myself. It wasn't worth it, at all! I only got junk items or like 20 neopoints.
But then again, i've never been a very lucky girl with "random" avatars and prizes xD
From the neopoints i've heard you could get up to a 1 million nps prize. But so far i've heard that only happened once.

Don't buy anything with a prize code. It's stupid to spend any money on Neopets.
