Well, it depends on what you like. Try making your drawings more realistic, instead of something really cartoony

What if he likes cartoony things?

Though I do agree he is limiting himself.

That kind of artwork is more "production line" meaning it's something that many can come up with, very fast, and very easy. If you want to stick with that, so be it, but try putting in more definition.
