I hope i can ask this here even though this is a forum bought im starting a forum for a church group of mine, just a place to say high say what events are going on and easy communication during the week. So no worries no competition with codex.

I assume alot of the programmers here have had some expierence with these. So which do you suggest I use. Those are th e only two im picking from. Just look at the good and bad ease of use etc... I have done invision and vbulletin before, but they cost money now and all and i dont like em so ya. Please vote thanks

I apologize if this is in the wrong place.

You would get more attention in General Chat. I'll see if I can move it for ya.

Oh, and in answer to your post personally I would go with phpBB. Once they get their third version out, a complete revision, I think they will be ranked with IPB and VBulletin, yet still be free.

They wont rank with IPB and VB, they are more like Linux compared to windows and whatever apple uses. tongue.gif
3rd party free and looks very nice but the others are more knowen so it gets less atention.

I'm guessing your using the Fantastico scripts to set up a forum which is why your only choosing these two.
I also had Fantastico on my hosting and I tried both. I liked phpBB alot more. You can also get free layouts for phpBB if I'm not mistaken.

Heh. I'd go with SMF until phpBB 3 comes out, which seems as though it's going to be really nice.

You could always ask your friends to chip in some tongue.gif
If theres no spare cash, i think phpBB would be better.

How many people will be using the board? If only 10 people use it, and each chips in $15, it's paid for. And if you get the pastor to mention it one Sunday, I'm sure all the church members would chip in at least something.

phpBB is great for modifications, but SMF is highly optimized, small, and fast.
