I was messing around on google and I managed to find an interesting website

http://www.school-survival.net/

It basically talks about how compulsory school has negative effects and talks about different alternatives, such as homeschooling, unschooling ect. It also gives interesting information about school in general. Basically the sites main theme is "Anti school, not anti learning". I found it a good read, so check it out tongue.gif

    LOL! Nice find.

    3) How educational is school really?

You listen to a lesson, you do some exercises, you are given a test. In order to pass the test, you must memorize information - this is often done by following elaborate "learning methods", none of which are really much more than ways to trick your brain into remembering things it otherwise would disregard. Some people actually remember some of this information later in their lives - especially if they happen to go into a career that's somehow related to it. Most people, on the other hand, don't remember much more than 20% of everything they ever learned at school - including the skills needed for reading, writing and working with numbers.

Seriously i dont know how the area of an triangle will allow me to buy a house years later in life..Or how knowing the big bang theory will ensure me a life without starving tongue.gif

No, but it damn well will BUILD the house tongue.gif

But seriously... in middle school, high school... in otherwords general school and beginning uni they educate you general things because for the average person in that group.. they don't know what the hell they want to be. Or if they DO, they will change it when college comes along which would make all of that "needless" training essential. I went from wanting to be a vet to a marine biologist to a vet again to a psychologist to a child psychologist to an artist and now back to a child psychologist and you know what? I haven't even finished my freshman year in college. Who knows, you might change your major to interior design, physics, or an engineer and if you don't know those things they will laugh in your face wink.gif

It may all seem pointless now but I assure you, it's not and it even allows you to communicate better with people who do know those things which... can very well help you put food on your table.

As far as no compulsary schooling goes... your parents (at least in America) can choose which school you go to. If you want to be homeschooled, fine. Great. However I'm glad they DON'T allow the children of this country to have the option of being uneducated because that's just fucking you over for the rest of your life. A lot of times children need to learn certain things at certain times and if you don't learn them... well... your maturity level suffers and a lot of times you can't catch up again. That is why the country has education and quite honestly... education right now is one of the most precious things that you can have. Won't seem like it now but once you're older it will be the only thing getting you a job one day if you have a PhD against a Masters. Or if you have a High School Diploma against a GED they will chose YOU, not the guy with the GED.

*sigh* which is why I brand this site biased bullshit and was probably written by an angry 14 year old trying to make a revolution. This line right here says it: "School isn't about learning, it's about training people to be obedient to those with authority over them." rolleyes.gif

Yea, i know. Just having a bit fun biggrin.gif
It had been all etched in my mind that studying helps when i decided to go to college instead of polytechnic in the first place.
ZOMG. you should have said that earlier!! i think i just got a mistake for the contest!! tongue.gif

Besides i've just completed my first year at college. Will be taking my A's this year. Hopefully my grades will be able to pull me to a decent University. And i am planning on studying chemical engineering biggrin.gif

If you hate school, don't go. If you are below the age of sixteen you could potentially be bringing your parents to court, forcing a huge fine on your home, losing a lot of money, and not being able to return to school. Reconsider it, because frankly, if you hate school, then you are just a boring individual who can't make something interesting.

Till the age of 16 when I got to pick all my courses, school really was generic garbage tongue.gif . It's redeemed by teams and clubs though I spose.

I hate school, I think College is just like High School with professors that think they're EVEN cooler. smile1.gif

It's boring, seems pointless, but its worth it. Every once in awhile you'll learn something really interesting, usually you are going to end up teaching yourself everything. But you have to be able to prove that to others with paper. I hate these sort of things (the "revolutions"), I for one would never hire someone with a GED over someone with a High School diploma. I mean...Christ. How hard is it?
