A few days ago, at my school, the entire student body took part in an activity in which we lined up in a circle around the gymnasium (all 650 of us) and there would be people in the middle who said, "If you are (white, black, jewish, christian, heterosexual, homosexual) please step into the middle of the room." When they got to the homosexual one, it was me and one other guy and about seven girls who walked into the middle. I have never felt so frightened in my life, with 649 eyes watching you, maybe 500 of them unaware that you were a queer, and afterwards some refusing to meet your eyes.

Discuss awkward situations, and how you got out of them.

No, that guy is the token queer.

That would be awkward though, being one of the only 9 gay/les people out of 650.

WTF why are all your posts about gay people?
ok, your gay...you like gay people, you support gay people....could you please stop? this isnt gaycodex you know

    Go die, kplzthx.
If you haven't noticed, it was about awkward situations. It happened to be "gay themed," but who gives a shit? Seriously.

Myself, I feel that I have far too many awkward moments.. mainly because I end up psychoanalyzing pretty every one of my actions that day as I'm trying to sleep 1we8.gif Basically, thinking to myself, "Okay, how could I do that better? What did they think when I did/said that? Do they think less of me? Maybe I shouldn't have done that.." etc etc.
Yeah.. by that point, a good part of your day seems amazingly awkward..

It was an awkward moment for him, if someone had done exactly the same topic but saying jewish or black instead of gay or whatever would you be this rude? No, so shush.

I'm fortunate to never really have been in that sort of situation Urban, immensely proud of you for going and doing that though, you still astonish me how brave you are =S. Maybe that's just because I'm a wuss though.

XD at least you weren't alone. that makes everything better, that others were willing to put themselves out there just as you did.

I've taken grean caution to never put myself into a situation like that. sad.gif

Good job man. Standing inside that circle obviously meant you were proud of who you are because if you weren't you obviously would've pretended you weren't and would've stepped in smile.gif.

Luckily i've never been put in that kind of situation. Though if I ever was I wouldn't be one of those people that thinks they're so funny for walking in when a jew is called out or something.

To be honest, theres most likely alot more than that, theyre probably just too frightened about what other people would think. I was going to say more but i totally forgot what again biggrin.gif

Put it this way. (we'll use bi sexual as an example) They call out bi-sexual (which in this story you are). And you don't step in. That means you wouldn't be proud of yourself most probably because you want people to accept you then wouldn't it? But imo no matter who you are, what you are you should be proud of it.

Yikes. I have social anxiety so I live most of my days with that feeling. But...I don't know. I think that took quite a bit of courage.
Personally, I don't care if they said "If you're female" I wouldn't have gone in there just cause I don't want to go in the circle. XD

Yeah, there are more. I know some of the closeted ones who had come out to me, like the one who I'm probably going to prom with (that's how we're outing him). But, guys, this isn't about sexuality it's about awkward situations.

So, basically if I had said I felt awkward stepping into the middle with very few people if they called out "Step in if you have you have less than enough money to get by," that would be my fault for not having a lot of money. Think about what you say Lee.

Some people can help the fact that they don't have much money, but if someone's parents
don't have a lot of money, that's nothing they can help. If a kid doesn't have expensive shit
and aWESOME clothing and gadgets, that's nothing for the kid to be ashamed of. I grew up like
this.. I had to live off of money from my Dad because he died...but now I make me own money.
    ANYWAYS----
I think I would feel just like you in a situation if it were about believing in God. I don't, and most
people around here do and don't know that I no longer do. My family doesn't even know! So I
would feel most strange but I wouldn't care because it's something as simple as having no
    religion...

What sort of school do you goto? Thats got to be about the most demeaning thing I've ever heard of. Its my business if I'm gay, jewish, schizophrenic, or whatever, not the whole damned student body. At that point I would have walked out of the damn gymnasium.

I doubt the students were forced to participate.
They didn't have to step into the circle if they didn't want to.

Possibly, but at a certain level, its pretty obvious if you're not going in when you fit the bill. If you're white and you don't go in, its obvious. If you're absent on jewish holidays and you don't go in when judaism is called out, its obvious. If the stereotypical gay man doesn't go in when gays are called out, its obvious.

LOL, oh this reminds me of my orientation for college... they did that stupid circle thing. It was HILARIOUS... They asked who had been racially discriminated against and I stepped forward. They asked who felt like they were of colored race and I stepped forward because for god's sake... white is a color and I've been made fun of because I'm 'too pale' and have been told to get a tan. Plus questions like that are just completely idiotic and seperate you. It's rediculous.
