If you haven't seen this already and you can get into rated R movies GO SEE IT. Do it now. Especially if you aren't afraid of subtitles. The movie is in Spanish as it is a foreign film and is set in Spain in 1944 during the uprising of the rebels against Franco. It's about this little girl who lives in a world of fantasy inside herself. She moves with her pregnant mother who got remarried to a captain to his house in the woods. There she finds a fairy who leads her to a faun who tells her that she is the reincarnation of the princess of the underworld. She must complete three tasks in order to go back to her kingdom. Seems like an innocent typical children's film, right? WRONG.

This film is intensely violent and I do not reccomend it to anyone who cannot take gore. This also includes disturbing imagry with some monsters which look like they could come right out of Silent Hill. It's deep and beautiful with two seperate storylines coinciding to come into one. It has been nominated for 6 Acadamy Award nominations being: Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score (lovely music, I will say), Best Foreign Language Film, Best Make Up, and Best Art Direction.

Truly this is one of the best films I have seen in my life. Seriously, go see it. It's wonderful. It'll be worth the movie ticket.

It looked like a really good movie, I had no idea it had gore in it at all tongue.gif just scary monsters. Is it hard to keep up with the subtitles?

lol, ill take you addvice and see it if i have time xD
and fortunetly i dont need the subtitles D: lucky me
also sound liek a cool movie kirby.gif

Yeah, actually it was made by Mexican filmmakers and it's called in Spanish El Laberinto del Fauno so perhaps you know it by that name. it's amazing happy.gif

And no, the subtitles are pretty easy, but of course.. I watch crazy foreign films occasionally anyways so perhaps I'm used to them.

If I can find a way to get in, I'll see it. You gave it quite a great review, and honestly, I wanted to see it even before reading this. It's on my list tongue.gif

i dont get it...is it ilegal to see R movies in theater?
cuz i was never told anything since i was 12 blink.gif lucky maybe?

To see R movies you must be 17 or above legally tongue.gif But I don't think they normally check unless it's a high profile gory movie like House of 1000 Corpses. If they do check you must be accompanied by a parent.

Wow, the commercials made it come up as a child's movie. Something my 8 year old cousin would watch, I'll probably wait for the dvd.

Well seeming as how some guy gets his face smashed in by a bottle... I'd say it's not a children's movie xD And yeah, all the trailers... didn't really accurately describe it :\

Yeah, I heard this movie was pretty yum, but the subtitles scares me away. Imo, subtitles take away from the movie, but I'll give it a chance. I'll watch it soon. smile.gif

    edit-
    gasp...

I want to see it! I watched Labyrinth last night for the first time! Of course it's not the same thing, but it reminded me of it.
Yes, I can handle subtitles, I went to see the Passion of the Christ...but then again I already knew what was going on in that movie.
Anyways, thanks for recommending! I hope it's at a theatre close to me......

It was a great movie. I watched it last weekend. The subtitles were very easy to follow and I don't usually watch any subtitled shows. Don't let it being in Spanish discourage you.

It's totally not gravedigging because it's on the first page...and I think I must have missed the topic when it was active.

    I bought the DVD today.
And I'm watching it without the subtitles on because I'm fantastic. Haha.
But it's in slightly archaic Spanish, which is irritating.
