I thought it was animated when I first saw it but actually it looks kinda real too...I'm not sure blink.gif . Obviously that big ogre isn't real tongue.gif .

It's not but a lot of the backgrounds were done on bluescreen because they wanted to imitate the graphic novel they've adapted it from.

looks great, is this supposed to be an imitation of the peloponnesian war?

Persian Wars. Peloponnesian War was about 50 years later between Athens and the Peloponesian League led by the Spartans.
300 is the Persian Wars, and is about the Battle of Thermopylae where the Spartan King Leonidas blocked the pass with 300 Spartans and some other Greeks. They stopped a ridiculous number of Persians passing and so gave time to the rest of the Greek army to retreat to Athens to prepare for a naval battle that would determine the outcome of the war.

It's nice to hear you say that because I don't believe many people knew that.

I'm going to see the movie tommorrow with my brother. My high school's mascot is actually the "Spartan" so my whole school has been excited about the release. From what I've heard from friends, everybody is going to see it. I just hope the movie is better than the preview.

The movie actually has the best blood effects I've ever seen. Most probably because almost the entirety of the movie was done in bluescreen, blood was actually just animations done from coffee stains and napkins. And it's not really distracting, look at the ground. happy.gif
    THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
    Great movie. biggrin.gif

call me a nerd, but i found it amusing that the spartans armor was actaully a lot better then the persian immortals, but in the move it is switched. And that huge guy is just sick.

Nah, I mean the Peloponnesian League. tongue.gif

Completely irrelevant to the topic really but here's is Ali's very brief Classics lesson. tongue.gif (Because if my wrist messes up again anytime soon and I can't play violin again, I have a place at uni to study Classics instead of Music. tongue.gif)

In the Peloponnesian Wars, almost all the states on the Peloponnese (where Sparta is) minus Argos and somewhere else...Achaea I think, were allied with Sparta and were part of the Peloponnesian League.
The Peloponnesian War was between Athens and her empire and the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta.
In the First Peloponnesian War (460-445BCish), the Peloponnesian League fought the Delian League, they eventually agreed on a 30 year peace.
This was broken and in 431BC we had what is known as the Peloponnesian War which eventually led to Athens losing it's power.

The Delian league was an association where various city states paid either money, troops, weapons or ships, all of which were kept in a treasury on the island of Delos. In 454BC it gets moved to Athens, conveniently as the Athenian Empire really begins to establish itself. They stop accepting anything but money in payment to the league and they use the money for a lot of non defensive projects. For example, the Acropolis. tongue.gif

Cant wait to see this movie either. Seen all the trailers and stuff and looks pretty decent. I heard today tho that the Iranians arn't liking the film as it don't show how events really happened and makes them look bad lol. I think the banned the film also there lmao.

Blood, sex, action, and cheesy script taken directly from the graphic novel. There's a point where the special effects and action need to be accompanied by something more, and this went past that point. It honestly wasn't that great in my opinion. unsure.gif

Same. Well, at least as soon as I saw this thread for the first time.

I guess they've concentrated all advertising efforts for the US? Wasn't allowed to watch the 300 seconds of 300 either because I'm not a US resident.
