Sooo...my baby sister just told me she's been cutting herself, but she asked me not to tell our dad...(she's my step sister..)

And I'm worried about her, but at the same time I don't want to violate her trust...

what to do? tell our dad or not?

Try to talk to her about it.... I know it can be hard to try to get
someone to stop doing stuff like this, but just try to talk
with her about it. It may help, it may not...depends on
her really. Hopefully it will help. Where is she cutting?

Two of my older sisters had this problem. The best thing right now is to talk to her about it, telling your dad right away might it seem like she can't trust anyone and might end up cutting herself more (might I'm not really sure). But the best thing you can do as brookuslicious said, talk to her and make her feel like your there for her : )

the reason kids like cutting is because it releases certain chemicals in the brain which make you feel good. if you can't get her to stop, then tell the parents. this is something which needs to be stopped immediately.

I don't remember the exact one, it was my bio course in my first year of university i learned about it... it's basically something that trigger's the body's release of natural pain suppressants, most likely endorphins.

I don't really know what to tell you, although I will say DON'T go the "well if your gonna do it i'm gonna do it" fear route. I had a friend try that with another friend and although it was a baseless threat, it didn't work. If you can't stop her and it continues to be a habit, tell your parents.

My friend used to cut himself but he then got a girlfriend and slowly stopped because she was really concerned about him.

What you should do is hide her razors. Each day, hide like 2. Don't make it seem suspicious, hide them in places where she would overlook when she truly loses them (ie, between couch crevices, underneath night stands) places where you dad might find them.
