I have this problem. I often think I have some significant purpose in life, but I dont know what it is. I also often find myself thinking that Im superior to others around me, that they are stupid. Also I often have thoughts that God is testing me or that certain things happen on purpose to me, and I'm not even that religious, haven't been to church since I was 12.

However, the complication is that I realize what Im thinking isnt normal. I often scold myself for having such thoughts, which are even hypocritical at times.I often wish I havent had these kind of thoughts, but they keep coming back....It's like I have no control over it. I realize what I'm doing is stupid and arrogant right after it happens. And I don't display these thoughts outside at all. I'm the nicest guy to people, even those I don't like. My life isn't exceptionally hard, I'm sometimes depressed but I always tell myself life goes on and it does; I do have a variety of friends as well, ranging from the popular ones to the geeks.

It haunts me every day. These thoughts of grandiose. And this division of personality. Part of me finds others inferior while another part of me says "stop being so arrogant and hypocritical". Part of me wants to study business and be wealthy and drive a nice car...part of me says "Stop being so concerned about money". Part of me says "you're different, you have a purpose in life" another part of me says "who the hell are you kidding, you're no different from anyone else, stop being such an idiot".

I really don't know what it is. I've talked to a few friends, and they say they have not experienced such things.
It's the developing to the point where I would be thinking about something in one voice and then something like a thought of "No, don't do that" would pop up out of nowhere, like a totally different person.

Have any of you ever experienced this? I'm so seriously considering seeing a psychiatrist although I think I would end up wasting money.

I have two voices if that's what you mean, yes. I don't have the same thoughts, like I've never thought that I've had a purpose, but I've definately mused about how unhappy I am, and then my second voice would pipe up and tell me to shut up because I didn't have it bad, that was a few years ago though. I do still have the voice like, it always tells me what I ought to be doing and how I should be and things tongue.gif.

I've not experienced anything else, but I dunno, I bet a lot of huge business people with the determination and confidence to suceed have similar thoughts about being better then other people and stuff.

Oh that's fairly normal and honestly unless it's severely disrupting your life beyond a simple self esteem problem depending on your mood... I wouldn't say it's a disorder. People do hear voices occasionally naturally and it's an internal voice, not even being close to schizophrenia though the delusions of grandeur ARE symptoms of it. But that being said of course one or two slight symptoms do not made a disorder. It's natural, really. Probably just a bit of a narcissistic disorder combined with also low self esteem and some depression. But really... if it's just thoughts and it isn't killing you it isn't a problem. I have those thoughts too a lot and so does Gene. You aren't alone tongue.gif Honestly though you are experiencing some dissonance in your personality and you just need to do more what you think is moral to help you feel better.

There's nothing wrong with thinking that you're better than most people if there's some truth to it. You just need to accept that everybody has different roles in life, if it wasn't for the stupid people, what would we call the clever people? If it wasn't for the poor, where would the rich be? And so on...

I often think of myself as superior to others, but that's because it's true. biggrin.gif

lawl. conscience much? It's a good thing you're realizing your arrogant thoughts though.... some people go through their entire lives thinking it's okay to have such thoughts.

I would say it was normal - at least, I do something similar too, as others here have said. biggrin.gif The general population to me is something I rise above, in my head.
And then there are times when I feel inferior and want everyone to like me.

We all have our little quirks!

Funny, I saw a guy dealing crack out of the back of his van down town to some ten year olds and I kinda thought I might have an edge on him in the special department. How disappointing that he is just as good as everyone else.

People make me hate humans more and more every day. I work around people at my job, and the things they ask me and the way they act makes me hate almost everyone. I'm always like, OMG people are so effing stupid and shit like that.... I know exactly how you feel. I experience this every day. Because people do so much that makes me disgusting to even be a human... you know? Especially how nonsanitary and fat some are.....

It seems that your still fairly normal Alex, aslong as your one side keeps the other side from thinking bad thoughts; then your completley fine.
I have voices in my head, one thinks that I have somthing huge headed for me that'll change my life forever while the other one tells me that I'm just a regular person, like everyone else. I personally think I lie to myself that I'm like everyone else, because sometimes it just feels like you think completly different than everyone in the history of the world. Maybe my thoughts are held inside too much, but I think a therapist would help me console.gif
