It is basically a sample of the fight between science and religion. The theory of evolution suggests that it would be the egg that came first because whatever laid the egg would not have been quite the chicken we know today, but something genetically, if not physically, different. Religion however, with the story that God created all the animals, would say the chicken came first.

Personally, as I am not relgious, I say egg.

Edit: I am of course saying this as someone born and raised in a christian country, having not really been exposed to many other types of religion, it might not exactly stand up with those tongue.gif.

Dinosaurs laid eggs before anything we would recognise as a chicken even existed, so the egg came first by many millions of years. tongue.gif

Don't even both with religious crap... dry.gif

Not really. I'm "religious" and believe the egg came first, because I believe Evolution did in fact occur.

So yeah, I think the egg came first tongue.gif

lol yeah, its the evolution thing, dinosours laid the eggs, then some dinosouric birdie evolved into a chicken, or martians sent the eggs to earth millions of years ago =p
    (excuse my mispelling)

I didn't mean that everyone who is christian or whatever believes that the chicken came first, simply that the religion suggests it would have to. For that particular religion. When I said 'I'm not religious' I kinda just meant I don't believe in the God created the world stuff. There's kinda waaaaay too much evidence against it for the particular telling of how he created the world to be true.

I answered the question which was put to us. tongue.gif

And religions can presume anything they want, it doesn't make it any more true than Martians. I'm not ignorant enough to suggest that only certain people on Earth have found the God, unfortunately many others are...

There's no evidence against God creating the world. In fact, there's more evidence supporting a divine being creating the universe rather than pure chance. Now I think what you're talking about is instant creation, as in all animals appeared at once. In that case, yes, there is much evidence against that idea.

Just to go off-topic a bit more, what is this evidence to support a divine being creating the universe? First I've heard of it. tongue.gif Unless we're counting the bible of course. dry.gif (lol)

In an infinitely expanding universe of unknown worlds and life forms anything and everything is possible. It's a very frightening thought, and some people will try to explain it/rationalize it with a God. If you were to ask me if I believe in God, I would say yes because I'm Christian, but as to why there is a God, I'd give you my first sentence as an answer.

I said there is no evidence against it. That's why there are not true Atheists. Once you sit down and talk with them, you ask "So are you a true Athiest and KNOW there is no divine being like God?", usually they will answers "yes", and you ask why and most of the time they end up contradicting themselves and usually admit that they don't really know if such a being exists or not, therefor admitting there is no direct evidence against a divine being.

You didn't just say that there was no evidence against it, you said that there was more evidence to support a god than any other alternative, which is clearly wrong. There is no 100% proof either way, I would also argue that there is no empirical evidence at all to support any divine being, but obviously that would ignore many other possibilities.

Nobody can provide accurate odds for a divine being existing, nor can they provide accurate odds for life to have developed randomly. So in my opinion the mathematical excuse just doesn't cut it. Until we know what is needed for life to 'become', we can't say how likely it is for it to occur (whether that includes a God or not).

And people don't need direct evidence that a God doesn't exist to be Atheist, just as many religious people don't need direct evidence to believe that a God does exist. tongue.gif

The fact is that we know just about nothing about the nature of existence and how we came to be and we probably never will.

Anyone with half a brain cell would know the egg came first.

Also does it realy seem plausable that a so called "divine being" exists, if so who created them, and who created the creator, ect

The amino acids, then the protein, then the first organisms, then eventually to the chicken.

I think it was the chicken.

Relegoius or not, it's hard for me to see if the egg came first.

I say that the chicken did not indeed come from a genetic mutation, but actually was a creature all its own!

How would that even be possible? everything we know today is due to evolution, one species of creature gives birth to an animal with a slight defect, and that animal gives birth to more, and eventually it turns into a new animal

    Not this again. XD

    So it's simple.

What came first was the color black. So they probably invented white next.

So that means the eggs came first.

Besides you can’t get a chicken without an egg. So how can the chicken come first if there was no egg? =0

Black and white aren't even colors blink.gif You're logic is just... illogical.

I think it's impossible to know. As for modern day chickens, yes, I believe the egg came first. But who's to say there weren't chicken like mammals that gave live birth? (I know it still develops from an egg, but it's internal, not external)
