i'm sure by the time they have the technology to do so, electrodes will be far out of date and way too bulky

Well you are going to need to attach something to take neural or electrical impulses. Unless of course you want to apply amounts of radiation or magnetism to your skull constantly just to move your cursor around, I don't think there will be a non-connected form of input.
We actually have an electrode cap that a French researcher made that can almost interpret basic brainwaves to determine speech.
