I want to start running Kubuntu or Unbuntu or something like that (Linux, correct?). I'm not sure where to start and would like to know if it's possible to boot back and forth between Windows and the other OS. Any help getting me started would be appreciated smile.gif .

    http://www.ubuntu.com/

Download it, burn it onto a CD, boot from the CD and it should load ubuntu. From there you can create your partitions and install it onto your hard drive. It should install Grub automatically which lets you dual-boot between different installed OSs.

If i can do it, anybody can. tongue.gif

Great! Thanks. But is Ubuntu the best? Any opinions would be appreciated smile.gif

I don't think it's possible to say which linux distribution is the best, they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Ubuntu is the only one i've tried and i've had no problems with it.

yes all linux distros allow dual boot and multi OS confugurations

I would personally recommend Ubuntu, but it's all about personal preference really

Wow... I should have listened to that. I made a new partition with Partition Magic and when I rebooted I couldn't go anywhere. I had to use my reformat CDs sad.gif Oh well, maybe I should just buy a new Hard Drive, I need one anyway. Then I could boot windows off of it and boot Linux off of this one. Well before I do that, I'm just going to get a small Linux OS like Puppy Linux and boot it off a CD or thumb drive.

It's funny how this topic came up, as I tried installing Ubuntu yesterday afternoon. Basically, I deleted my old partition and reformatted the entire drive, then I tried installing Ubuntu, but it never got as far as showing the mouse. I ended up keeping WinMe. Good luck! thumbsup.gif

Oh BTW. I also Made the partition while my computer was upside down (don't ask me why). Maybe that had something to do with it biggrin.gif
