We were looking at fake bills today at work, and I was curious if anyone had ever actually had someone try to pass a fake bill on you.

Canadian bills have too many security features on them now, so it would be very very difficult to make counterfeit currency here... so never had one passed on me. New Zealand's is even harder since there's a transparent section on the bills.

That would be interesting is it because there aren't many anti-counterfeit features on the bill?

No, I mean our $5 bill doesn't really have any good anit-counterfeiting features. But all the other ones are really secure.

Someone tried to give me a 100 dollar bill for 6 dollars worth of stuff, so I got that marker thingy and swiped the 100 and also looked up in the light with it and I could see it was fake. Cops kept the guy in jail for like 5 days or something. idk

Americans aren't advanced enough to use waterproof bills. It's amazing how many slightly green wads of paper I have in my pockets :'(

I used to work for a bank when I was younger. We got training in how to detect fake money. The currency you encounter most being fake is actually the $20,- bill. If you touch money all day long, you will feel it when one is just not right, but it doesn't always mean it's fake. For example if you leave your money in your pocket and wash it, it will also have that fake feel. wink.gif
The things we had to do if a bill was suspected fake, feel it, smell it, use marker and hold it under a special light. Most people that gave us fake money, had no clue it was fake.

Personally I love the Euro's, they look great and have some very good safety features. (Only thing that sucks with countries that use the Euro is the amount of coins you get in your wallet, imo)

I've never gotten a fake bill before (that I know of).

When I worked in an insurance agency office many years ago, and the redesign of the $20 bill came, apparently I was the only one in the office who knew about it. A couple of my co-workers were about to call the cops on a new customer who was paying with all $20 for their down payment. I said let me have a look since I had dealt with lots of money in my previous job (cashier/night manager in a grocery store).

When I saw it was the new $20, I said, "It's not fake, it's the new $20 the gov't has started distributing." At first non of my co-workers believed me - they thought I was kidding. I told em to call our agency's bank and ask about it. They did and they finally believed it. I think our rep at the bank laughed at em too.

Sometimes I hate being the only one in the know on things. LOL

ROFL. But money's a thin cloth... it shouldn't be so bad you can't use it. (In the US)
