Just wondering for most apps/games, the most ammount of RAM i would need is 512mb of ddr RAM....or would I need a say 1gb+?

Most apps are 256 mb and same for older games. But since there's new games with all these advanced graphics and stuff you need more RAM to compete with the GFX card, usually 512 mb to 1 gb. Rest assured the majority of apps only require a minimum of 256 mb but I recommend at least 512 mb to make it smoother. If you want to save some money instead of getting like 2 GB get 1 GB DDR which is very good and almost the same as 2 GB.

This really depends on a lot of factors. If you are running Vista, 2 GB is near the minimum required.

Well the main factor is this pc is a bag of shit hooked up to a monitor

What are you trying to run? The amount of RAM needed varies greatly from application to application.

If you're gaming, 1 gig would be the norm, but most gamers go with 2.

If you just want to run things smoother, 512 should work, as long as you're in XP. Hell, I've even gamed on 512 before =P


Vista is a power hungry OS, don't get it unless you want to have massive amounts of RAM go to waste.

Real response: I recommend at least 2gb for today's demanding games, and 2 or 4 will work fine in vista

if you have a dual channel motherboard, running a 1gig stick and a 512 stick would be stupid

I'd just buy the most you can afford . I believe in the saying "You can never have enough RAM" (besides, your motherboard won't support more than 4 to 8 GB anyways)
