We have a problem there, as you can gather.

People get upset at what I say solely because I don't coat it with a layer of sugar. I tell shit like it is.

But, beyond that - again, thanks for the advice. I'm still intent on waiting for the formal because I know it'd totally ruin what relationship we have now. I cherish my friendship with her, and I'd rather not throw it out there until I'm certain there's something between us. I'll keep looking out, and hopefully I'll find something. This is one thing I will be patient for.

Man, I remember being in this position. A year and a half is too long to wait. She will either write you off or assume you're gay. You have to show interest immediately or a girl's mind will think and overthink and massively overthink everything and then you'll be SOL. Trust me, I've done research. If you don't show interest in the next week, she'll forget she ever liked you.

And don't worry about the loss of friendship. Girls aren't like guys. If you can still be friends with her after you ask her out (assuming she turns you down) she most definitely can. But don't assume she'll turn you down

If I do, I'll make a reappearance somehow. I really don't want to ruin this. I'm also not too well physically, so the year gives me some time to get my ass into gear and become something worth liking.

Pat, this girl is completely different. She's not the typical dumb but horrifyingly beautiful girl, she's by far the most intelligent, compassionate and beautiful girl I've ever seen in my entire existence. I want to wait. This is something worth waiting for.

You shouldn't be worried. If she says she will go out with you, then good job, if she says no, then just say lets carry on with our regular relationship. If you wait long she will think you aren't interested in her.
