I've heard Japanese or Chinese is really hard but is German?
German seems like a pretty cool language, would be awesome to learn it. I always thought it was an ugly language but after listening to Rammstein, my opinion quickly changed.

Also, anyone know any good German music other than Rammstein?

    Nah, German is easy.
Half the words are practically English anyway, and the grammar is blaggable.

English is pretty easy imo, only trick part is getting the accent right. 8 years of living here and my russian accent still breaks through.

Here are a few rammstein songs for you.

Rammstein is baller. On another note. German would probably be difficult. Took my aunt like 3 years to learn to speak it fluently. She used one of those tapes that come with a workbook type thing idk. But she went to Germany for a month after learning it and lived there without any complaints really.

On anothernother note. An old coworker of mine studied Japanese abroad in Japan. She speaks fluently. I think she was there for 4 years on an internship.

Yeah German is pretty easy since it's so inflexible. I'm just useless at learning other languages though so my years of learning German in school were thoroughly wasted. tongue.gif

German is like the easiest language for english first language speakers to learn. I think it's personally easier than spanish. Only major problem is not knowing which words are masculine or feminine and having to memorize those. Essentially all you have to do is add -en to every verb and make guttural sounds randomly and capitalize three words in each sentence and you'd sound totally authentic biggrin.gif

I took 2 years of it and I have to agree it's pretty simple. Sentence structure wise it's ass backwards from english. oH and you have to learn how to spit as you talk tongue.gif not what I would consider a romance language lol

Rammstein is one of my all-time favorite bands.
I love the music. It makes me feel so angry when listening to it.
    Well, some of the songs.
I want to learn German as well, not just because of the music, but because
I would like to know it.. and Japanese as well..

Haven't a clue how hard German is to learn, as I take French but with any language, it's going to require a lot of perseverance. Unless you have more motive than to be able to understand the lyrics of Rammstein, you will not get very far.
If you're serious about it, buy some Michel Thomas CDs and get started right away.

Just watch A LOT German TV and you'll pick it up. Seriously, they voice-dub like 99% of movies there. I speak fluently (slight accent but nothing too bad), but my grammar is shit since I never learned it at school. Also, once you've learned the German and English language you will have no difficulties learning other Germanic languages like Swedish or something. biggrin.gif

For me, German was really easy to learn!

It's pretty similar to english....a lot more guttural though. They're in the same language family though, so it's easier to learn for english speakers than say french or japanese.

I'd suggest finding something that teaches it like a first language....that's how i learned it and I retained almost all of it a year + later without practicing it.
