Does he really exsist? Do you believe in him? Post all your comments here

I don't believe in "god" because I have called on him many times before and nothing... he didn't save my uncle when he was dieing and he also killed my grandfather. I see no reason to believe if he won't return the favor

I believe in God for reasons which I'll explain later (maybe tongue.gif).

However, saying that God didn't keep someone alive is reason enough to not believe in him isn't good enough I think. No one has and no one will ever escape death. Everyone will die one day. As harsh as it sounds, it's the reality of things. The old makes way for the new and that's how it should be. Eventually, everyone has to die and will die and some people die earlier than others for reasons unknown to man. Everyone has a time to go and as hurtful as it can be, that's how life is...

Furthermore, simply because your prayers weren't answered in a way you would recognize them, does not mean that they were not answered or will not be answered. Perhaps they were packaged in a way in which you did not recognize it tongue.gif.

That's just my take on it. I don't have to say it but I think everyone knows that everyone has the right to have their own opinions on things.

I don't like arguments like these. I'm a true blue Christian so I often end up acting like a whore and calling everyone retarded at the end...

    Not very Christian-like, I know.

But here's my 2 cents : God loves the Jews, the Athiests, the Satanists, the Christians, etc. all equally. 'Cause that's how he rolls. So even if you don't believe in him, God will still love you. If you're wondering why he killed your loved ones, it's because he wants to make life as humane as possible for you. Your life wouldn't be truly worth living if you were all-smiles all the time wink.gif. I'd say more but I'd end up becoming biased to the teachings of the Catholic Christians since that's practically all I know about Religion stuff biggrin.gif.

We need someone to smoosh all these topics into 1.

I believe in god mainly because I don't see how else everything could come into being and because there's just so much stuff that I want to experience I can't be satisfied with living just 1 lifetime and thinking there'd be nothing after this would ruin this for me. I'm against organized religion and I think god just created the 'universe', and hasn't done anything since.

God's there but he's not going to go out of the way to save someone unless he wants to save someone. That's how I believe he rolls. If someone dies you shouldn't blame God for it. Blame disease or heart attack or human violence. I'm curious. Why on earth do you think God killed your uncle and grandfather?

Anyways I think that's a rather selfish logic. There is no deal between you and God. God didn't come down here and shake your hand and say "I'm going to save your grandpa and uncle when they're dying if you believe in me." Sometimes it is just their time to go. If you want to believe something like this question what may have happened if your uncle or grandpa lived longer. Would they be in more pain? Would something worse happen if they didn't die? I happen to believe in what I call the "Dead Like Me" concept where souls just... expire. Sometimes people need to die. My grandmother died because it was her time. It was too painful to go on living. The poor woman had an incurable cancer for 15 years. It just is their time and God just lets it go.

But yeah I just tend to think God gave up on giving us obvious miracles. Obviously didn't work too well with Moses's tribe, now did it? wink.gif "Omg he's been gone for 40 days! Let's build and worship a gold cow!!!"

Tetiel and Hydro got a point. I won't post much on this kind of topic anymore. I just believe on god. I lost some parents latelly, but I don't blame god for that. I lost an parent that was helping my grand-aunt doing the geneologic tree of my family. My mom lost a cousin, he died because of cancer on pancreas, he was really rich one day and then he startet to lose everything, he got sick, and a few weeks ago died... We shouldn't blame god because of our problems. We can ask him to help, but maybe it was the person time.
Once I heard about a girl that lived close by, she studied at my school and had just finished it. She had a good life, but then, while taking shower, she just died. I have no idea about what made she die, but I know that a lot of people became sad.
Last year a little boy called João Helio died, he was only 6. Bandits stole his mom car, she tried to take out his security belt, but she couldn't, and the boy was out of the car, trapped by the belt, for 8 miles. He died, and we all were sad, but it wasn't God's fault, it were bandits fault.
I know how though it can be for you to believe on Him, and I won't say "Believe on him now, because I want to". There was a time that I didn't really believe in god, because of small stuff that happened in my life. But now, I kind of just know that he exist. You can believe on god or not, that's why he gave everyone free will to believe or not, but just because you don't believe doesn't mean that he won't care about you as much as he cares for someone who does.

Why do people always look to God when something bad happens? SHould God keep constant watch over you to prevent negative actions? ANd if so, what about the chump next to you, or on the other side of the world? Sounds like a tall f'ing order. Are we really that shallow as a race? To think that someone, somewhere should be picking up the slack so that we don't have to endure anything unpleasant?

If God stopped every negative thing from occurring, we would all have to live in the chaos created by a world free of worry and consequences. We would screw ourselves somehow anyway.

GOd doesn't do bad things to us. People do bad things to one another, and damn near everything you can possibly blame God for was caused by a person or group of people somewhere down the line-God merely spectates and steps in on the rare occasion-as in a miracle. Which, btw, it would not be if it were an everyday occurrence.

Kid killed by a drunk driver? Or young mother or father dies of cancer? I can name a million possibilities. All of them are tragic and senseless, "why me" scenarios. But the sad fact is, it's all just the random results of our own choices, or the result of being subjected to the choices of other PEOPLE, not God.

Also, God does not see time, life, and death the way we do. Our individual existences are drops in the bucket, and our physical selfs limit our scope of perception of these things. We are not being wronged or abandoned by God just because we have to live life with it's hardships and all.

There is no real God. There are a lot of pretend God's we can all enjoy to ourselves and pretend to talk to, but the idea of a God which exists outside of the human brain isn't plausible.

I believe that the idea of "God" was created for two (while extremely generalized and sort of vague) reasons:
    1. People needed to have moral guidance.
    2. People wanted answers to things that their science could not answer.

Well, that makes sense right? I know that it doesn't cover all of religion, or even all religions, but in a quick summarization without taking things to deep, I feel it suits what I'm trying to say.

For the first, all throughout history people have looked to their God(s) for what is socially acceptable. Every civilization had these different morals and dogmas that their God(s) "asked" for.

For the second, if you look back (and now) people have used religion to answer their questions about life. Why are we here? What is after? What makes the world go round? Are we the center of the Universe? Etc. etc.

as NiN said: "God is dead... and no one cares... if there is a hell... i'll see you there..."

not that i'm saying God is dead, but He's *REALLY* not showing himself or doing all the badass stuff Him and His disciples and apostles and prophets used to do. i wanna see fire come forth from the heavens and incinerate a wet pile of trees. i wanna see rivers turn to blood (and not just because of a large group of bathing women on their period).

the correct-est answer to this thread's title should be:

"No, i'm sorry. He's stepped out for coffee, can i take a message?"

In previous days, it have been that religion was required to construct morality, but at this point in sociopolitical affairs, it's pretty fallacious to suggest religion is the counterbalance to anarchy or whichever indescribable horror would plague us.

Perhaps, but would that then suggest that these morals have found their origin in the religious of the past and have transcended lineage down to us?

God is there but I don't think he should help us. If he helps you, why shouldn't he help someone else going through the same thing or everyone else in the world who's suffering. If you believe that God is gonna jump in and save the day then you're not the one who's in control of your life. The point of life is to learn and you can't do that if someone is always helping you. Suppose you had a kid, you wouldn't want to fight all his battles for him; you'd want him to learn from his mistakes and reward him for the wisdom/morals he grasps at the end.

I'm pretty much repeating myself here but I will say again.

Basically I believe in a god, or rather a creator. No this god is NOT a being of any sorts, I believe god to be a force so complex that its intelligent however at the same time must stay within the laws of the universe. At the same time I believe that everything happens for a reason even though most of the time the reason is unclear. That means when its our time to go, as hard it is for all of us, its time to go as you've served your purpose.

Take my godmother for example, she died last year and rather than not try and cry my eyes out about it I tried to think of her lifes purpose. It wasn't until her funeral did it click and boy did it click. I sat and listened to all who knew her and then this one woman got up, she was quite distressed about it. She told the story of how my god mother had taught her autistic child how to read and write, this child wasn't the only one who she'd helped but I knew there was a reason why this child was able to read and write with a quite bad autism problem. I believe my god mothers purpose was to bring joy to the parents of autistic children and help improve the life of autistic children, its what she loved doing, and she was very good at it.

In other words, yes its hard to say goodbye to the ones we love, infact very very hard. However we must always remember that we all serve a purpose, your uncle and god father served theirs no matter how insignificant it maybe to the big picture its what they do to the small picture that counts.

Anyway back to god, listen to religious texts. They are put in place to give us moral and value, we were visited by 'Jesus'. Jesus was not the son of the creator of the Universe as we all think of him, he was a being of a lot higher intelligence than us at the time. I think that religious values that religious texts talk about should be listened to, however a belief in a particular god has only led to bloodshed and destruction.

I've already seen this posted a bit up in the thread, but I'll just say that God is just a figment of our imagination. We use God as an answer to things that cannot be. Sort of like Santa, Easter Bunny etc. We believe in them because it only makes sense if we did (Like how would a human not wake me up, or a person hide all of these eggs?) Basically we're at the child end of life, we don't know how life started, so we assume it came from God. Although there are some people who refuse to believe that and think there must be a scientific reason for the universe to of been created. (Like me.)

So what happened to the Gods they used to believe in Roman times? One day the god of a sun exists, the next day he/she doesn't because we've proved why it's there/how it came there.
