Keep meaning to post on here officially rather than letting random people know every so often on MSN. tongue.gif

Some people who know me (less and less of you people these days...) know that late 2007 I got proposed to by the long-term boyfriend and I immediately freaked out a bit about being young and stuff. And then for a while I was worried thinking I'd messed everything up between us but everything was totally fine. smile.gif So that all happy and good.

Then a few weeks ago it was my birthday and never one to take no for an answer he tried again, jokingly pointing out that I'd claimed we were too young and now we were both another year older. It's been on my mind a lot since he asked like...5 months ago. It's the first time I've ever really thought maybe I'd get married, I've always been adamant that I wouldn't. I've known him for 4-5 years now and he's got me through...everything really. We're both the closest thing to family that each other us, both with one parent who has nothing to do with us after the other one died. I occasionally talk to an older half brother, he occasionally speaks to a few much younger brothers. So yeah, we're fairly alone in the world. I've lived with him for about 10 months now and before that there were a good 4 months of so of me having "extended stays" with him whenever my mother decided she didn't want me. It's been crappy and he's been lovely. I know I can manage living with him without us killing/seriously maiming each other at least. tongue.gif

He made a very good case for himself, pointing out that engagement doesn't mean getting married tomorrow, it's just a commitment to get married in the future.

So this time I said yes.

Absolutely no intention of getting married for a fair while yet. I keep telling people we're out of university (so uhh...2011 on my part, 2010 on his) but part of me suspects it might happen before then. tongue.gif But I do officially have a fiancé now, with a ring and all to prove it. Very dainty and elegant, it was his grandmother's. biggrin.gif

So yep, I'm getting married. (Sometime in the not huuugely distant future. tongue.gif wink.gif)

(Oh, and if you're going to come in here and lecture me on the percentage of young marriages/marriages generally that fail these days, seriously, just....fuck off. I don't care. happy.gif)

We're students! It was going to be coming from within the family somewhere or else I wouldn't be getting a ring at all. tongue.gif

And thanks. smile.gif I've kinda put off telling Codex because I didn't want to deal with the "you're really young" criticism buuut I don't really care all that much.

Congratulations! Grandma's ring, that's very nice. It's most likely a family heirloom to him so you know you mean a lot to him biggrin.gif

    AWESOME! I love weddings!

Out of curiosity: How old are you? My grandma was like 15 when she got married.

Aw, that's so sweet. When you do get married I hope you live happily together for life. Take pictures!

You can't be too young if you're in uni. Better than being in highschool or whatever.

Congratulations. I WOULD have thought you was too young before. However, my 2 best friends got engaged (One is 18, and one is 19 (well 20 now) ) and I see it dosn't matter how young you are really, it's how much you love each other.

They also have a child now tongue.gif within about 16 months of dating, and they love each other very much.

I hope everything goes right for you Ali smile.gif

Ya... wait does that mean I have to share you with someone else? tongue.gif

But seriously I'm really glad you found someone and (I'm not the one who usually says this) fuck statistics.

    PS
I'll make a bigger (better) post later today.

CongratulaaaaAAAAtions Ms. Ali! I'm so jealous...

If I had that opportunity, I'd gladly get married ASAP!

Too bad I'm on the side of life that is pressured into proposing lest he be named "gay, pathetic, not the man of the house, gay" for the rest of his life. sad.gif I wish girls proposed...

Actually, if I'm gonna be wishing for stuff...

Ali, I'm sorry, I know you said not to, but I have to.

What on earth do you think you're doing getting engaged at your age!? Just because you've lived with him for nearly a year and you love him and you've known him 4-5 years and he's the closest thing you have to family, oh yes, and you love him. It's no reason to go marrying him. Age really really really matters you know, that little number is far more important that how you feel about him. Gawd.

I'm not the best at that sort of thing, but hopefully anyone that fancies coming in to complain will realise they'll just look like a ninny now and not bother tongue.gif. Congratulations hun happy.gif. I do really hope you're very happy, I shall await my invite in the post.

not gonna lecture, just tell you that marriage is a thing *both* of you have to continually work at... sure mine's pretty much failing, but at least i can see and understand where things went wrong. just make sure you don't stop loving each other, and COMMUNICATE!!

Sorry, just thought I'd make a point of the cost of a marriage. My supervisor at work is getting married in August and they can barely afford to make ends meet. But you probably know that, so good luck.

Really Ali, hope all the best for you, you deserve it with all the shit you've gone through.
