Some people who know me (less and less of you people these days...) know that late 2007 I got proposed to by the long-term boyfriend and I immediately freaked out a bit about being young and stuff. And then for a while I was worried thinking I'd messed everything up between us but everything was totally fine.
Then a few weeks ago it was my birthday and never one to take no for an answer he tried again, jokingly pointing out that I'd claimed we were too young and now we were both another year older. It's been on my mind a lot since he asked like...5 months ago. It's the first time I've ever really thought maybe I'd get married, I've always been adamant that I wouldn't. I've known him for 4-5 years now and he's got me through...everything really. We're both the closest thing to family that each other us, both with one parent who has nothing to do with us after the other one died. I occasionally talk to an older half brother, he occasionally speaks to a few much younger brothers. So yeah, we're fairly alone in the world. I've lived with him for about 10 months now and before that there were a good 4 months of so of me having "extended stays" with him whenever my mother decided she didn't want me. It's been crappy and he's been lovely. I know I can manage living with him without us killing/seriously maiming each other at least.
He made a very good case for himself, pointing out that engagement doesn't mean getting married tomorrow, it's just a commitment to get married in the future.
So this time I said yes.
Absolutely no intention of getting married for a fair while yet. I keep telling people we're out of university (so uhh...2011 on my part, 2010 on his) but part of me suspects it might happen before then.
So yep, I'm getting married. (Sometime in the not huuugely distant future.
(Oh, and if you're going to come in here and lecture me on the percentage of young marriages/marriages generally that fail these days, seriously, just....fuck off. I don't care.
