Why does it matter if the puppy was dead or alive?

I think there's a pretty big difference between tossing a dead puppy off a cliff and tossing a live puppy off a cliff.

Read: Disposal vs Murder ?

Although you're right that it's not cool either way, I think that if it were dead the soldier should not be punished as harshly (or at all).

If it were a snake or rat, half the people on this forum might act differently. The fact that it is a cute little puppy seems to carry more of a shock and impact to people. This being a baby(genetic trigger for empathy) and dogs are regarded in western culture as pets and more so as a part of the family. I guess they could have taken a living local vagrant and thown them off for entertainment. ~shrugs~

I more mean it's senseless that people are arguing that the puppy looks dead or the puppy looks alive. They don't really know and they don't have an expert opinion unless people on this site are vets and I didn't know about it. He made it look like it was alive which is just as sick and depraved. Sorry. I worded my statement kind of oddly, didn't I?

And personally adonis (but then again why am I stating it? I know I'm not the norm) I would be just as distressed if he threw a mouse or a snake off the cliff. I refuse to let my mom set mouse traps when I'm around especially those awful sticky traps which make them struggle so much that they snap their legs in half ;_; So I go mouse hunting and catch them myself and let them free a mile away or so. My mom hates my odd behaviors sometimes xD But I do think you're right. Most people would hardly give a shit as much if it were them throwing off a human adult male...

I'm the same way. I wouldn't wish this to happen to an ordinarily "not cute" animal.
And sticky mouse traps are so horrible. >.<

I saw that video a while back. Even though I don't believe it is true, it is still horrible. And yes I do care more about the animal then I do about the innocent people out there getting shot.

    Old news is old.

However, seeing it a few weeks after the fact reminds me of how distraught I was after first seeing it.

    ... poor puppy ;___;

Introduction to cruelty by our own "heroes"?

The puppy never moved...anywho there's always a bunch of jackasses in the army.

Fair point, and I've heard of a few people who've done that here and survived. The majority either won't have time to do that, or will be in too much shock to remember to do it. I couldn't decide on whether to choose lion/lioness or shark to make my point, seems I chose the one which someone knows how to fight tongue.gif

Well have you ever tried to punch something underwater. Goes about 1mph and takes about a year to hit it! So...unless you've got Bruce Lee's skills; there's a high chance you're going to end up as a shark's elevensies.

don't punch...jab straight forward with forknuckles curled less resistance and more pressure on impact underwater wink.gif

To be honest I don't think a shark's going to notice much difference.

I like how a thread about US Soldier vs Puppy has turned into a discussion on Shark-punching which is, inherently, far more interesting. Speaking of sharks, allow me to introduce Megalodon!

I got a book called the Worst Case Scenario Handbook (or summat) and it definitely mentions the nose-punching business. Thanks to that book I also know how to survive if my parachute doesn't open.

OK I actually atched that video. That puppy does NOT look alive at ALL. the thing doesn't even move the whole time if you notice.

When you pick up a puppy by the skin on the back of it's neck, it tenses the whole thing up and pulls the skin tight, they barely move at all.

I'm pretty sure it was a senseless killing, and the poor thing was probably tortured. I don't understand some people. 1we8.gif

I hate people like that 1we8.gif
