Hey guys. Considering my computer has been failing on me, I'm going to be upgrading it.
I mean, I've been getting around 20fps at most on LOWEST QUALITY in Orange Box games, not to mention my computer itself is slowing down.

I've been running on a Pentium 4 3.0ghz, with a Radeon 1950 Pro AGP 8x.

I will be soon running on this setup (anything that is missing is staying from the old comp):

Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Memory
MSI P35 Neo2-FR ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor
HITACHI Deskstar P7K500 500GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Thermaltake W0106RU 700W Power Supply
MSI GeForce 8800GT NX8800GT 512M OC Video Card

Total after Rebates ~$900 (there were other parts not listed here, such as cords and OS)

The memory seems to fail for alot of people, so I might change it out for something else.

Computer builders, what is your opinion? cool.gif

I most likely will overclock the CPU (they say it is good for that), and run it on 64-bit.

Buy dual video cards and your games will actually need the fps limited because it'll go too fast

I have no idea what you just said.
There is no need for dual video cards...

Why did you go with that motherboard? Just get the P35-DS3L from Gigabyte. Cheap and good.

You'll want an aftermarket heatsink too if you plan to overclock.

And most of the ballistix that fail are the DDR2 800 ones. You have to have a fan pointed at them or else they die out. A good replacement is G.Skill.

Also I would go with the new e8400 instead of a Q6600. Its roughly the same price if not cheaper, it will overclock a lot higher and run cooler.

If you're planning on running 64-bit Vista, I would get 4 Gb of ram.

And that powersupply is too expensive, a Corsair 620watt is good enough and better quality.

All I have to add is that if you're getting ~20 fps on a P4 3.0 Ghz and 8x ATI x1950, you're doing something horribly, horribly wrong.
I have a P4 2.4 ghz and an ATI x1300 (running at 4x no less because it's a shitty motherboard) and I get ~30 to 40 fps unless I'm in like a 24 person TF2 game and everyone's in the same room. Even then, it's still playable at around 15.
