Well recently there's been an arguement involving Soulja Boy and Ice-T. Ice-T says Soulja Boy killed hip-hop... What do you guys think?

I think that indeed Soulja Boy is a terrible rapper but I don't think he killed hip-hop...

Hip-Hop has been dead since NAS said it was. Now, there are still occasional good rappers, but it is by no means the norm.

Well, its his fault for making shit music. And you're right only young kids really like Soulja Boy. People who like lyricism don't.

    sorry I cant agree...

Hip hop will never die unless you like commericial shit..

Nas is sick trust, his word play's illegal but he wernt doing it more then Biggy and Pac. After they died then it went dead but.

A few rapper have kept the game flowing, even though his a prick mans gota rate (50 Pence) to a degree, he raped the market and still is and now he has got (Mobb D) backing him...

Whos your favorite rapper/ rappers I think you should be allowed to write three down.

It's the natural cycle of music. Each genre of music has a neutral base where originality, creativity, and style are valued highly, but over time, these values are sacrificed for ...well, dancability (I wonder what the correct phrase would be for that...). As these values decline, the value of dancability increases and shifts music in a different direction. This includes the fact that different offshoots of genres can return to valuing those traits once again, but they will eventually devolve and form a separate genre or permanently shift the values of that particular genre.

In saying that, the real question, at least for me, is when that cut off occurred where the spectrum of previous-rap to present-rap differentiated itself too far from the original purpose or ideal of rap. I'd probably say... around 2000.

lol hahaha ice t is a washed up punk, taking hits on a kid to get notoriety... real classy. it would be one thing if soulja boy started this feud but he's just doing his thing, ice t needs to mind his business and stop talking shit, at least until he can drop an album that isn't a complete flop.

Soldier boy doesn't do Hip Hop, he just does rap and that game is surely dieing. Hip Hop is slowly deteriorating with rappers speaking on fame rather than real life issues and making a call for action for a more positive change in society. There still are a few hip Hop artists but many are either transcending into rap or have just fallen off.

    this is an argument

Also, anyone discussing the music is just expressing their taste after listening. You have to listen to a piece of music to even know what it's about, but that doesn't mean we listen to Soulja Boi regularly to mock him. Criticism is natural.

I used to manage an indie music store, so my tastes in music are so varied it isn't even funny. But here is my two cents worth: Most mainstream music just isn't my favorite. It's nice to shake your booty too, and lord knows I like to shake it as much as anyone else, but otherwise I just don't listen to it. My personal taste sticks to those with a little more substance. I like artists that can deliver a message in their music, be it subtle or in your face, they have a voice and use it. But I am in no way a music snob, even if I do not directly like a song/ artist, I can usually find positive aspects that I can appreciate. Be it a hook, creative line, anything.

There was a study recently that showed if someone listens to music they enjoy, or sings a song that they like for five minutes, it can be as relaxing as many forms of meditation. So the way I figure it, if any artist or song can give someone that five minutes and a bit of happiness, more power to them.

Also someone asked about favorite hip hop artists. I personally like Atmosphere, been a fan for years

like method man said the industry is turning into fastfood outlet and soulja boy is part of the product here today gone tomorrow. I would'nt say hiphop is dead just in a coma waiting for someone to come a long with the right ingredients which would be in my POV good beat, great hooks, solid lyrics and great deliverance. Well thats my 2cents
