I understand perfectly that our government is responsible for our deployed soldiers; however, I don't condone all of our troop's actions (regardless of it being in the job description or not), and I don't find them heroic. Furthermore, I don't owe them an ounce of respect. America went into Iraq to compensate for it's failure to protect the nation from a terrorist attack. Now we are overcompensating, and it's getting out of hand - it was never about protecting American freedom, because we all know that that was never at stake in this situation.
Finally, I think what people don't understand here is that the Iraq war isn't a Hollywood feature film. Many of these soldiers are not prepared to give their life for their country. Many of them treat being in Iraq as a job. I don't take time out of my day to honor investment bankers, lawyers, or plumbers, so why exactly should I take time out to honor a soldier?
