I hate baseball. I agree with that comedian %100. It's not like Baseball has playbooks, in fact the object is so simple there's hardly any strategy at all other than possibly the different type of pitches. The plays and athleticism shown in Football, like throwing 60 yard TD passes is just utterly astounding.

It's a mystery to me how people can stand watching an entire Baseball game.

Wow, you think baseball doesn't have astounding feats?

How about throwing a baseball 101.9 miles per hour?

How about hitting a ball 634 feet?

How about throwing a baseball 445 feet ten inches?

There are a lot of strategy going on in baseball.

Not only does the pitcher have to decide which pitch to throw, but also where to throw it. There are batters good batting inside and others bat good outside.

To pinch hit, managers would have to decide who to put up and whether or not he is good against that particular pitcher, whether it be a righty or a lefty.

When a strong groundball hitter is up, baseball has a no double/triple defense. For fly ball hitters, they would have defenses against that too.

Intentionally walking a batter is just one of many strategies.

Damn right. tongue.gif Also America is like the only country which bothers playing it...nobody else takes it seriously.

Japan is really into baseball, don't know about many other countries.

Edit: Somebody already pointed that out

Thats interesting, considering all of the foreign born players that have been flocking to the sport.

Lets look at some other Countries that have or had National Baseball Teams......

    U.K. (2 Teams)
    Cuba (7)
    Venezuela (9)
    Columbia (9)
    Nicaragua (12)
    Costa Rica (10)
    Dominican Rep (11)
    Italy (11)
    Japan (12)
    Korea (10)
    Netherlands (12)
    Taiwan (16)

I suppose you're right. USA is the only ones playing the sport

That's because we haven't introduced baseball that many other countries yet... we're trying but it takes a good 30+ years to get a good amount of teams to play baseball. Hopefully we get a good league started in China.

Also hitting a 90+ MPH baseball is the 2nd hardest thing to do in a sport. After hitting a softball (only because of the way it's pitched)

I've heard this before, but I don't understand how they come up with that... Is it harder than a hole in one in golf? doing a backflip on ice skates? Punt return for a TD?

Don't get me wrong, I'm totally not trying to be a prick... I just don't understand that statement smile.gif

1080 on a skateboard? taking a haymaker to the face (Boxing/MMA)

Trying to score on J-S Giguere... 1we8.gif Only 7 out of 100 shots will find the back of the net. 1we8.gif

Not trying to discredit how difficult it truly is, but there are other very difficult things in sports that one up this. 1we8.gif

I think some of you need some education about muscles and their function. There are two sets of muscles which tend to be defined as slow twitch and fast twitch muscles. Some people who are runners like soccer players need fast twitch muscles so they can move quickly and last a long time while slow twitch is more about strength. Soccer players because they have a completely different body type and tend not to have bulky enough muscles would NOT do well at baseball which is a sport of strength, judgment, and occasionally speed. Soccer is a sport of endurance and speed and because of this is very impressive but they could not do well as they do not have the upper arm strength. Barely have any at all. Why would they need it?

I mean honestly it's like saying a discus thrower isn't as athletic as a sprinter. They just have their own skill sets and train just as hard for them.

Each has their own skill set and to some baseball appeals and to others soccer/football appeals. Honestly comparing the two is a bit like apples and oranges to me especially comparing their athletes. I will say, though, that after sharing a house several times with minor league baseball players they are anything but lazy.

    Well put happy.gif

This is such a stupid thread IMO. Who cares if more people are able to play it -- isn't that a good thing? Baseball is more so a game of skill than muscles. Obviously, you need to be quite athletic to be a good pitcher. I used to think baseball was tedious until I decided to watch a few games -- if you actually give a shit about any of the teams playing and the scores are close, it can be pretty exciting. Not to mention, it's much less expensive to go to a baseball game than say a basketball or football (american) game. Soccer (footy or whatever you all call it) is fun to play but terribly boring to watch, especially when there are like 2 goals in an entire game, which is quite often. Also, if you know how to count, then you can keep score baseball. This can be difficult though! Since you're from Vancouver I'll be stereotypical and assume you're an avid hockey fan like you assumed all American are baseball fans. Hockey is more of who can beat the shit out of somebody else the best while on ice skates. Call my a fag, but I don't find losing teeth or getting my neck sliced by razor sharp skates to be appealing.

Everybody has their own opinions, but soccer imo is the most boring sport to watch.

Watching baseball can get boring sometimes, or most of the time. I would agree, but if you're playing the game, it's anything but boring.

    Let's go Phillies.

I'm an Eagles fan in Florida.....and a St. Louis Cardinals fan as well. Where you live doesnt make all that much of a difference in the sports teams you may choose to like. I hate all the FL teams in all sports...but if it came down to the Rays vs. Cubs (or anyother NL team ex STL) I would pro'lly root for the Rays to win it.
