I hear Egypt is pretty dirty though... and pretty scary for women to visit (just one story to back this up that I've heard - a family friend of ours and her husband went there and a guy tried to buy her from her husband and wouldn't leave them alone for a day )

WTF!!?! I've never heard anything like this and I think I'm a pretty bad person for laughing at that . I just found it hilarious that something like this actually happened. This is the kind of stuff that you just hear about and wonder if the person isn't just making it up.

I know a girl who went on holiday to Turkey and her brother decided to sell her to a local for some camels. There was all sorts of trouble when her dad had to explain that no, he didn't actually want to sell his daughter...

It happens a lot, you should look up what countries are considered safe for tourists. Egypt is pretty low on the list
