    QUOTE (Tetiel @ Aug 15 2008, 09:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I honestly do not believe that global warming is mainly caused by humans. In the 1970s there was a huge amount of people who believed that the world was actually going into the ice age. There were all sorts of magazine covers on the subject. Even TIME magazine had one.
    http://www.time.com/...,944914,00.html
Read the article. You'll notice that they're saying almost the exact same things that they are saying about global warming now. And here's the kicker. On the second page of that article they also blamed man!

Now to say that just because back then is a lie global warming must be a lie too would be stupid, but it is certainly something to consider. The global cooling theory of the mid 70s was just as hyped up as the global warming theory is now. And guess what? Even though they had DECADES of data which was supposedly showing that the climate was cooling the ice age never came. Our planet is also not heating up nearly as quickly as they had predicted two decades ago before the theory really caught on.

My point more is that the earth warms up. The earth cools down. Sometimes it gets real hot and sometimes it gets real cold. It's just how it is. Geologists can tell you that this has been happening since the dawn of the earth. Maybe we're causing it maybe we're not. I highly doubt we're the main cause. Maybe we're not helping but the amount of CO2 we're putting in the atmosphere is a drop in the bucket from the amount that gets poured in from natural sources. So if this theory remains true we are just not helping but at least in my opinion we are absolutely positively not the cause. If anything cows are doing us in more than anything else wink.gif Eat emu and kangaroo burgers perhaps.

I, however, completely support the going green movement smile.gif Why? Because I want cleaner air. If you live anywhere in Detroit... even places like Winsor, Canada living there is like smoking two packs a day. It's absolutely disgusting the amount of chemicals we're pouring into the air sometimes. I'd also love to see us stop being such a wasteful society. So I don't give a damn if we're getting hotter or not. I like the way we're changing tongue.gif

One thing we all agree on is that global climate change (or warming) will happen. It will happen on earth whether humans exist or not. Humans only contribute a tiny bit towards accelerating the phenomenon. But we arrogant humans, assume the role of protector of the universe and start making up theories till the day comes when we get royally fucked up by mother nature.
Even though climate change has known to occur on earth, the global warming with humans at its center is just a theory that has not been proved yet.

I like a cleaner environment too. But right now the way we go about it, is completely wrong in my opinion. What we need to do is effectively find ways to get through a climate change when it happens.

Industries are blamed to be major contributors of CO2 emissions. Now one thing everyone seems to forget is that, these same industries form the backbone of the entire world economy. Crippling them would cripple the world economy and with a crippled economy we wont be able to do bullshit about anything. Find ways to overcome this problem without taxing the economy or ruining it. It wont help our survival if we don't have the resources to fight back when climate change occurs. The suggestions put forward by the green revolutionists will just fuck everything up and make us incapable to overcome any hardship mother nature is going to put in our way.

Just having the intent to do something good is not enough. You need to know how to do it the right way. Else it will just end up as a huge Mongolian clusterfuck.
If climate change will happen anyways, should we get ready to survive it ? or should we be arrogant and think we can control mother nature and waste our time trying to stop it ?

In short, Al gore is doing it the wrong way.. and doing it the wrong way is worse than doing nothing at all.

I did not anywhere in my post say close the industries ... Thats just stupid.
The costs of proposed emission cuts will do more than enough to affect the economy in a bad way.

With the technology we have now? I highly doubt it. Sure it will cost a bit, but it'd obviously be worth it.

I thought you meant closing them down by "crippling". Cutting down CO2 emissions would most likely not make them cripple, most of them are million/billion dollar companies.

I want UK to be warmer sad.gif we don't even have summer over here anymore... fucking blows

If global warming happens, the UK is likely to get a lot colder. At the same latitude as the UK is Labrador in Canada, which has almost Arctic weather. The UK is warmed up by the Gulf Stream, a flow of warm water from the Atlantic. If the polar ice melts, the Gulf Stream could be diverted away or eliminated by the flow of cold water, resulting in the UK becoming massively colder.

In other words, if global warming happens, the UK will have awful weather. If it doesn't happen, the UK will have awful weather. Whatever happens, the UK will have awful weather. It's the way it's meant to be; what would we bitch about all day otherwise?

    ohmy.gif I personally believe mine

Even if your video happened to be right, which I personally don't think it is, he has still contributed a ton to slowing global warming through his slideshows, even if he doesn't do what he is saying, which clearly he is as Green House gave him the second highest award for the greenest house.

Wanted to just respond to this part. You can sue anyone and anything, as long as you can get a judge to hear the case. Some fagot judge will always agree to stupid shit. If you'll win or not is another situation entirely.

The real question: why should you give a fuck? Thats not a "fuck it" cynic attitude, just a question why people should be inclined to care. If it brings about the destruction of technology for a simpler life once more, or it advances technology, that's not a bad thing.

The main point a lot of these people make is more about the appropriate response, not the existence.
