So this year, since I'm graduating, I gotta pay $50 for the grab ceremony; with the hats and ponchos or whatever you call them. And another $45 for the "Student Activity Fee". Now get this for electronics we have to pay for the expensive parts. In math we have to buy a $20 work book. And in bio we have to fork over another $20 for baby pigs to dissect. That's all for this first semester.

My question is: What does the Student Activity Pay for? Isn't a law in Canada that a form of education has to be given for free?

I think it's probably because it's a more elective activity which costs more. We do that in America too. Like for example since the art department couldn't always afford the absolute best we payed like $20 for oil paints in stuff to ensure that we could. *shrug* never had to pay for books though.

That's the thing though, the only elective I have right now is electronics and we have to pay for the the different parts we use in our projects...

By elective I mean it's not really required by the standards for the program. As in the cost for the fetal pigs and the work book. Essentially those are add on prices. I have a suspicion that environmental groups are to blame for at least the pig cost because of the controversy.

Well if my $20 pays for that, then where does the $45 go? In every other class all we got all text books.

Btw, the dissections are in groups of 3 so it's $60

It's a dead pig, you've got to dissect it, so you may as well go all the way tongue.gif

Yeah it was actually really hard. The challenge was to make a precise incision in the skull big enough to pull the brain out but not too big to crack the skull. It's almost like playing that old surgeon game where you had to pull the little pieces out of the different wholes and if you touched the sides the thing buzzed and you lost. Except this time it was real tongue.gif

I laid waste to the frog I dealt with in grade 12. Most annoying part was the heart, just because it basically had to be shaved down for a long while tongue.gif
