Increase activity ?.... give the new kids on the block a chance to shine instead of letting certain members scare them off to rival sites where they are welcomed and spoon fed programs that we may not have smile.gif

I guess we could do some work, but that would mean actually doing some work. 1we8.gif Most of our programmers have been around the scene for years and have just run out of steam for neopets programs I think (and I'm supremely lazy).

    Rival sites?

Like TNP ect ( Feel free mods to edit and take out that web name)

People who are unwelcomed on here find other site like the one mentioned and stick with them.

Kistune, the work our programmers do is great, it truley is, but these days peoplE dont want to and dont have to work to get the prog`s anymore.

    For instance.. private progs.

Here in order to get to use the big progs you have to achive 500 posts ( which is fair enough) then you have to get passed the most biased voters around and beg/steal/con your way into private.

    Or

On a rival site you can simply keep posting and let the numbers dictate who gets what and who deserves what.

    Either way.... CODEX RULES!

Maybe we should have another 100 post day when we get a few more active members.

Maybe a short fix for a long problem?

Thats if there even is a problem... like kitsune says..its always slow this time of year, we just have to make sure newer members are warmly welcomed

I only just recently became private, and I didn't have to con anybody ohmy.gif (big surprise to you I'm sure). Just stay active, and contribute to the site. Not hard.

Tyler's point I think is that he used to be generally disliked and somewhat bullied by a certain member who has a vendetta against all that he thinks is stupid. He still got private by not being a dick and staying active. Not everyone gets in on the first time. Some people get in on their eight time running for private. And if by biased you mean judging people on their actions well... goodness, I have no idea how else to judge them. We generally REALLY hate people who try to beg, steal, and con their way into private, btw wink.gif

But I do think we should be a bit more welcoming to the new members. No, I don't mean actually welcoming. I mean actually making an effort to make friends a bit with them. I remember when I first joined I was a little nublet who was excited and honored by a retired member (Suz) actually making the effort to PM me and get to know me. Redlion did the same. Honestly I'm not sure that goes on anymore and I'm really as guilty as the rest of you.

Oh and to the people with vendettas (there's a lot of you). Stop being a prick all the time. Not everyone feels the way that you do. Not everyone will agree with you. Yes, there are people who aren't very smart. The average IQ is 100 which means for every brilliant person such as yourself there is somewhat equally as much of a dipshit. Some of the people you pick on deserve it especially because of their attitudes when it's ignorance, not just stupidity. However, some people cannot help the way they are. Stop trying to change them and ridicule them when they can't do anything to increase their intelligence. I know how frustrating it must be to see all the people in this world who don't own up to your high intellect, but that will never change no matter how much you try. No matter how much you will it to. Get used to it and recognize that the stupid things some people don't always deserve a snide comment.

So I'm not the only one who realizes its there?

I still stand with that one person being the best applicant out of them all, even though everyone was all like, "WHO?"

No, you're not the only one. The problem is with some people from LPC is that they don't tend to go outside the section much. Some of them do and that's awesome. I get to meet them then, but I don't really venture in there much. It's the same with someone who could be a great member in the neopets area but I'd be all like "who the hell is that?" if they don't venture out. Problem is I don't play either game and there are tons of people like me so it's hard to get to know people who tend to stick to their own thing.

I think i had that problem at the beginning, i was always in the neopets section, the GC never interested me so people never got to know me, not sure what can be done to bridge that gap tho?

Is the lpc still busy here?

You know, I had forgotten that I did that. I feel like your generation of members had a lot of connections with my generation of members. Christmas members were cool with the older guys too. We were from the 'private' codex, before registration became open. Then it went invite, then truly open. Strange.

Amen on the judging. There's really no other way to assign an award rank than to judge people.

And on vendettas and acceptance, props for saying that. I think more people need to realize that the world isn't perfect, and neither are the people in it. This topic comes up every year (and I've been here for 4 of them) and its pretty ridiculous that we always have to defend idiots to get good members. Its warped.

Don't be so sure you know the reason for everything. Perhaps you should look at the differences between codex and other sites before throwing around words like biased. It certainly doesn't help you out in that concern if its really bothering you. Most people that have it don't acknowledge it anyway, and most people your forum age that don't have it don't acknowledge it either. Don't worry about it and its done.

There are two reasons why I think our activity is higher this year than it is last year:

    a) Hydrogen and I sent a letter into Google this past summer explaining that we thought we were pagerank banned (because of all of those text-link-ads we had up before usually gets your site's rank supressed in the listings by google). We agreed to remove the ads and everything, and Google gave us a nice boost in pagerank (technically to where we should be).

    b) The aggressive advertising that was done during the Sloth plot actually gave us some permanent traffic. When the plot was happening, registration rates shot way up, and even months after the plot was done, people were still registering more than usual. It could be a side effect of gaining some sort of fame, either on other referring sites or just in ranking systems like alexa (I have no idea what the direct cause is tongue.gif).
