In case anyone is wondering how I'm even able to make this announcement, I've been given necessary permissions on the site to work on emergency technical issues, should any arise. tongue.gif

It seems that Neocodex has been experiencing some issues with its database. Namely, it seems that every now and then, people need to reset their passwords by using the "forgot password" feature. This first happened on October 30th, and I was asked to investigate what could have caused this. Upon examining the database, it appeared that everyone's passwords had suddenly disappeared. We never did find what caused that to happen, since everyone who is able to work on matters like these were busy with school and such. I tried looking into it a bit, but I wasn't able to find anything, and so the staff were just instructing people to reset their password.

Today, it appears that it's happened again, so if you are unable to log into the site, you will just need to reset your password or ask a staff member for help.

To elaborate on what is causing this, I'm thinking it might just be a custom modification of someones going awry. To my knowledge there's no "master reset" switch for people's passwords built into IPB, so it's either due to a custom modification to the code, or we have a security issue. The security issue is less likely though since database/admin passwords are reset fairly often.

So, basically, we don't know what is going on. 1we8.gif I'll be taking a look into this once finals are done (after the 18th). If need be, we'll just re-upload fresh new board files and keep the old ones on backup until we can recover our mods.

    Ditto. Thanks SL!

Also, I'd like to report that I tried the 'forgot password' method last night and never got the email (could be Yahoo's fault however). Tried again this morning and it worked fine.

For anyone who is having a problem receiving the password reset email on hotmail (like me...and I think Tyler had the problem a while back) then the chances are hotmail has blocked emails from Codex.

You can fix it by going to,

Options > More Options > Safe and Blocked senders > then take Codex off the list

I must have accidentally reported Codex emails as junk a while back. So I won't have to bother you about it anymore Ange tongue.gif.
