Adding a second at the end of the year is a temporary fix I suppose.

A second isn't added because the Earth is slowing down, it's added because an orbit of the Sun isn't exactly 365 days, nor is a rotation of the planet precisely 24 hours.

    Hence the leap year.

Does this mean that I get back a second that I've wasted?

Well then it's like... pointless. 1 second. Really?

We have finite lifespans, so I find that highly unlikely. tongue.gif However, if you constantly ran everywhere rather than walked until you are very old, I suppose you would extend your lifespan (in the frame of reference of those around you) by about a second from the effects of special relativity, haha.

PS: No calculations were done for the above. It's probably a much smaller effect. tongue.gif
