Yea I considered Bi-Metallic properties however I threw that idea out the window because the purpose to what I need it for is meant to be used outside in an unsheltered environment, therefore rendering temperature control too difficult to be worth creating.
If you're really wondering what the project is, it has to do with pool pumps. My dad, being the ass that he is, goes and tells his friends that I'm the Thomas Edison of the future, leading me to my current situation. I'm going to assume you all know how water pumps & filters operate. Anyways, there's a backwash valve on these and most older pool pumps don't have tubing running from that valve to a waste area, so most people just use rubberish hoses to carry the discharge 10+ meters away. I'm looking for some sort of material to run down the length of this hose that will flatten when needed (I would say when pressure from water is put on, but the rate at which the water releases out the pump is not really controllable, and will break the material if it becomes too pressurized) but will recoil back to a solid shape when done. I know people have hand rollers, but this is for the 'really lazy people' and I'm just doing it for fun. However, if I could accomplish it, and it was an easy task to do, I'm sure I could possibly sell it as well.
The coil hose is the best way to do what you want but unfortunately it's already been invented.
