I unno with MSN, if you talk to someone you haven't talked to a while, its like you have to have moving convo or it'll get awkward. With fb/ms, you can just drop a "sup/what you been up to/etc" on their page without being pressured to have a moving convo.

This is my gripe with not having a facebook. I have lost contact with many old friends as a consequence. However the negatives of facebook surely outweigh the positives, at least in my situation. I am sure i'm not alone in this, but I live a double lifestyle in many ways. I have a lot of friends and family that have no idea that I "do bad things", having a facebook wouldn't let me uphold this secrecy. Facebook's terrible "tagging" system would create a whole world of problems that I simply wouldn't want to deal with.

Secondly, the area of my work really requires anonymity. I wouldn't feel safe if someone could just type my name into google and pretty much have all of my information at their fingertips.

Honestly guys you shouldn't tease Amour. Regardless of what he says the reason he doesn't have a facebook is probably because he really doesn't have many friends and doesn't want to be recognized on Facebook as such.

I'm in the same boat as you. There are many things I do that I wouldn't want my family to know, as well as my job. Not to say that it requires anonymity or anything, but the mere fact that I'm smoking a bowl in my Facebook pictures just isn't something any potential/current employer wants. You can choose what you want to input into Facebook. All you really need is a name and a valid e-mail address, the rest you can pick and choose (unless you want people to find you by High School, etc.).

I suppose I understand why you don't have one, but I find that the two reasons you mentioned aren't as strongly applicable in my situation, so I have one.

Also, Amour is a girl. If she doesn't have many friends, excluding herself from a social network just for that own reason is quite stupid, and also does more harm than good. I see no problem with going on Facebook, having a private profile, and only having 10 or so friends. But to exclude yourself from it for the sole reason of 'not wanting to talk to any assholes from high school' is kind of ludicrous. As we all know that High School doesn't define an individual's personality. It's a culmination of things leading up to and past that point that define who a person is. I guess my point is, people aren't the same in the working world as they are in high school (similar, I suppose, but definitely not the same person). What's the problem with giving them a chance?

Some people just don't want to get in touch with their friends from high school I guess. I live 2500 miles away from my highschool so I question the need for a facebook since I practically have a new life. My sister was the main reason why I have one and I don't ever use it. She just bugged me until I made an account. *shrug* I just dislike social networks primarily because of the reasons you've stated above with personal information and I prefer to keep my online and personal life completely separate.
