So, I started last night, and I finished today :D

It allows for the iPhone to be remotely wiped from anywhere, all you have to do is attach an email address to the phone. It works using Remote Wipe which is built into Exchange Server.

Pretty cool :). How was the experience in making an iPhone application? I've been wanting to try my hand at it but haven't gotten the time.

Well its not an actual app, its a web interface and a C++ app. I have played with the iPhone its very easy and worth playing with it.

So what you wrote isn't an actual application you install on the iPhone possibly distributed through the App Store? If I understood correctly, your application is a web application people use to remotely wipe the data on their iPhones. But I'm still a little confused as to what you install on the iPhone which enables the iPhone to listen for the remote wipe message. Also, doesn't this pose a huge security risk in case someone is able to maliciously wipe a user's phone causing loss of data?

You attach a new email address... Its as secure as secure as there secret password, which is never stored on their part just ours.

Interesting. I imagine this would mostly be used to ensure law enforcement can't find anything on a phone they've got as evidence of some crime or similar.
I can't think of a purpose where it'd be useful other than that... well maybe if a girl/boyfriend is about to find incriminating evidence on there. All pretty much the same purpose.

Or for reselling. Or freeing up memory :p

I figured in terms of reselling you could wipe it yourself since you should have the phone with you (since you're selling it...)

In case of theft would be a legitimate use. If your phone was stolen, you wouldn't want the thief having access to your data, especially on an iPhone with all the saved app data like FaceBook/Twitter passwords and so on.

Sunscorch is right, the point of this app is in the case of loosing your iPhone, the majority of people have their life on it. This is a failsafe so if its lost you know they haven't got your data :)

All the cool kids have iPhones. I just have the old laptop. Now if there was a way to remotely clear all private data from Firefox on my laptop... but then again, I guess that's what remote desktop is for...

Cheers for creating a new application to help folks out, though. I've seen just how attached people become to their iPhones, and if you make a little cash in the process, that's not half bad, either.

So far I've had ten, since saturday. I have about 25 more open slots until I have to buy more cals.

I made the application more for myself and friends as so much of my data is on my phone, and i've lost it once already!

If I lost a $280 piece of technology, I might consider hara-kiri. Alternatively, I might return to a more primitive phone until I reach a time when I can own one for 2 years without losing/damaging it severely.

I remember that an incident where someone jacked their cell and went through all their texts. Maybe you can make the app to just erase certain sections based on what you email to the phone! :)

Since the iPhone connects to a computer (I would hope), I would come to assume that you can back up content and data externally...

But then again, if it behaves like the iPod and iTunes... *ERASES EVERYTHING then syncs*

Nope, the iPhone backs up every time you plug it into iTunes.

    Unless it's jailbroken =P
But then there are apps that fix that, which I would assume most people would use.

Does your doodah work on jailbroken 'phones?

How about a self destruct feature too? Like making it fry. That would be cool if it gets lost :p
