Aliens gave humans technology. This book is a debated bit of research. Interesting read nonetheless if you can get past the technical jargon.

yeah, I read this, too and I loved it! I read it at school in pedagogy-class...A Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
The Vampire Armand by Anne Rice. 100% times better than that Twilight crap.
I agree that the books are better than the movie, but the third an fourth book are somewhat ... strange I think... XD

For books I could read over and over - Watership Down by Richard Adams and Animal Farm by George Orwell top the list. Never have read 1984, but have wanted to for quite some time ... just never got around to it.

Planet nibiru and such. Although I find some of his ideas sceptic, I do think it is highly likely we have been visited in the past by a higher intelligence.
Read chariots of the gods if you liked that

On the lighter side of life, I think my most favorite book is "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It's about the end of the world. It's hilarious. I've read it many times.
Also interesting reads: The Einstein Intersection by Samuel R. Delany, The Plague by Albert Camus, and Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice.
Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass is fun for parties, especially if you're drunk.

1984. Greatest book of all time. End of discussion.
That does seem to be the general consensus.
And Punkrock, I Loved good omens as-well, I've read every book in the discworld series ^^ if good omens is the only one you've read, you should carry on.

Nope. Beginning dragged entirely too long for an ADD aflictee like myself to pay attention past the first 150 pages waiting for the plot to pick up.

Perhaps. But surely you have read "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish". I find it has the same anti utopian parallels as 1984, but without the sneaking off to fuck in a field parts.
Met, I read Mort. Very funny. And I've read lots of Neil Gaiman's solo stuff. But I think Good Omens was a good balance between Pratchett's zanyness, and Gaiman's... uh... weird dark side.

I'm mostly into nonfiction. Check out A Short History of Nearly Everything or A Walk In the Woods by Bill Bryson.

The only series that I actually read through completely was Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and that 4 years ago.
Everything else involves large amounts of pictures and small amounts of words.

I like the parodies it has with today, and everyone using make-up / artificial methods to try and make them younger.
A movie has just been released and they are making a show for the west-end (I will probably go see it, I love west-end productions)
