The 2 most important words for achieving success are ‘focus’ and ‘concentration’.

There is a simple formula to achieve success, which is to focus clearly on your highest priorities and concentrate single-minded on them until they are completed.

What you guys think about that,
share your thoughts...

Sounds really inspirational. I'll put this on a post-it note and save it for future generations.

I completely agree. To achieve success (when defined as having achieved the goals you have set for yourself), you will need to be focused. However, the downside to that is often that you are so focused on your goals (such as winning a game or make certain amount of money), you lose sight of many important things in your life such as your family, friends, your health, etc.
Because we were all brought up in a world that constantly tells us how important money is, it's easy to chase after money without taking a step back and considering WHY you actually want all that money. You want all that money so you can enjoy the things money buys you (for most people, anyway). But a lot of people spend their whole life making money for the sake of making money without realizing what the original purpose behind it is.
But in terms of studying for finals, yes, focus! You can't go wrong with that. And good luck!!

    Define success.

Don't assign imperative methods to an arbitrary concept. The two don't mesh very well.

To say that only these two elements are necessary for success would be naive. So I'm going to give some alternate sets of two words which in many cases are also the two most important words to achieving success.

    Time, Money

    Goals, Perseverance

    A plan, Organisation

    Passion and Enthusiasm

Leadership and a "Bias for action".

    The list goes on.

    Opportunities, action.

My father came from a small rural village in China and grew up during the Cultural Revolution. Clearly, most of the people did not come to America. Action creates opportunities, but without opportunities, 'action' (both of which focus and concentration are under, though they are static actions rather than fluid ones) is useless. Someone who lives in the ghetto might have an incredibly high IQ and huge potential, but without "opportunities", their potential will go to waste, no matter how much they work.

90% of success is dumb luck. Most people were there are the right time. I'm not saying that diminishes their accomplishments, but you cannot create "something" out of "nothing". Opportunities not necessarily being something tangible, but rather the "something" in that statement. But you cannot "create" without action, even if you have "something".

    Thus: opportunities, action.

That's true at least for 90% of the success stories we hear. We don't often hear about the guy who started off as the employee, and worked his way up to become the boss. Luck only helps if you grab it. But as the corny cliche goes, The harder I work, the luckier I get.

Doesn't matter if they're guy or chick or you are or not. Do it.

Again it really isn't that straight forward, success differs for allot of people,

Weather its to become a millionaire business man, or to get off drugs, both are successes?

I think Determination and need are the most important words.

If you don't need to do it you probably wont, and if you don't have determination you again probably wont get through it.

It takes a lot of dedication and determination to sit around the house and do nothing, and it seems to be working fine for me. :3

Surely they'd be more useful as personality traits, rather than simply arbitrary words?

I think that we have the potential to develop some motivational speakers here. All you have to do is try to find the "two words" that will be most pleasing to your audience's ears and go with those. Speak on the subject for about 2 hours. Then PROFIT!

Good game. Never before has it been easier to make grotesque amounts of money out of a skill such as bullshit.

    luck and connections

Sorry to be cynical, but I've personally seen so many very (financially) successful people that got to where they are by who they know, not through hard work, intelligence, or skill. This type of thing is quite rampant--just take a look at most CEOs or the children of wealthy/powerful individuals.

That being said, it can be hard work to find and maintain connections.

With focus and concentraton when times come that action is needed you will be ready to take the action needed. You need to not let opportunities pass you by and keep an end goal in mind.

You never need a question mark at the end of that, Noit. It's a command, not a request.

I agree with focus. Being awesomely good at some things is a great waste of time. My mum always said that you should never be too good at something you don't like- in Netball she was stuck in a position she hated (I think it was Wing Attack or something) because she was "good" at it and no one else wanted to do it. You will get screwed if you can get lumped with the crap jobs. I had the same problem happen to me at work- I was too good at something so they took away another responsibility that I actually liked because I didn't have enough time to do both.

But if you work hard in the right areas you can succeed. But unless you are noticed, it's a waste of time. (which is luck and/or connections) Some people work their whole lives very, very hard and get nothing.

Being lucky is really important. Some people are born loaded. Some win it. Some accidentally earn it through being good at something which makes them a lot. Being in the right place at the right time can mean so much.
Oh and just because I want to be a 100m gold medalist, doesn't mean I ever will be. I wasn't lucky enough to be born with the right physique to do it. There's sheer luck in that situation.

Skill is really important. Whether it is your own or borrowing someone elses'. Knowing people who can help you in ways to get you what you want can score you far more than if you do a half-arsed job of it yourself.

Connections are really important. Those who you know get you better jobs and therefore more money and more success. Most jobs are obtained through connections not job ads.

That's very true. I was in a job I hated but was good at and knew I was leaving shortly when I got married so I let a friend take all the credit for anything I did, plus all the stuff he did (he was good at the job too, mind you) and now he's been promoted and he's probably looking at another promotion within the next year. Having connections and friends is always super important.
