Logic Please??
Sure.
Ammo - In Mass Effect, you can shoot all you want. Sure, you have to take breaks (No spread forever), or your gun will overheat, but you dont have to count your ammo. Thats a godsend. No more, sitting behind cover, aiming until you can be sure you can hit. Shooting once and making sure its dead to conserve ammo. The gameplay was fast and simple. In Mass Effect 2, they introduced this bullshit called "Thermal Clips". What does this mean? It means that you have to run around, collecting ammo after you kill someone, you have to conserve your shots. Not only do they hardly give you enough ammo, they fail to let you purchase more after missions (To stock up), and they give you different ammo for weapons you dont even use (I only use the pistol, why do I have 250 submachine gun bullets, why are they still dropping after I am full on ammo?). They used this horrible implementation of ammo, as a method of including their "Heavy Weapons". Its stupid. They should have just added Heavy Weapons ammo only. Now the gameplay is slow and sluggish, spending several minutes finding ammo, and sometimes not being able to win a fight for a long time, due to having no ammo, and hiding behind cover while your abilities "recharge"
Weapons - In Mass Effect, you can find weapons, or find a dealer and buy some sweet weapons. You where given rate of fire, accuracy, damage, and shots before you overheat. You could review each weapon, decide which suited you best, and use that weapon. Then you could even customize the additions to that weapon, giving it more damage, more shots before it overheats, or even improve your radar. In Mass Effect 2, you rarely find any weapons on a mission, and you cant even buy weapons. They dont tell you anything about the weapon. You gain a nice little "backstory" on the weapon, and thats all you know. Damage, ammo clip size, accuracy. None of that is known to you. Its a guessing game. I have 53% of the game completed (Side missions and planet scanning included) and I have 1 (ONE) pistol upgrade. Thats it. One pistol improvement.
Amour - In Mass Effect, this could either give you more shields, or give you more damage reduction, or even give you biotic protection. You could enhance it allowing it to boost your abilities, heal you, or reduce damage from certain types. In Mass Effect 2 - This does not exist.
Planet Scanning - A once optional thing, that you just press a button with and its done, we are not faced with a FORCED part of game play. If you want any upgrades at all (Which replace weapon/Armour buying I guess). You have to scan fucking planets. Not only is it more time consuming now, but its also necessary. So you have to sit here, dragging your mouse across the screen, watching a meter and clicking waiting for a probe to land, and starting again. Best not miss a mineral patch either. Its really really pointless, annoying, and infuriating.
Powers - In Mass Effect, this assumed the role of an RPG. After you level up, your given skill points to invest in a large chart of abilities. Ranging from Upgrading your weapon damage, increasing your hp/shields, giving you new powers, improving your teamates. Each point gives you immediate benefits, with special powers unlock every so many points put into the skill. Until you "Master" something. In Mass Effect 2, every time you level up, your giving 2 squad points, and have an option of placing it in 5 different categories. Each category has the same ranking system, first upgrade is 1 point, second is 2, third is 3, and the last one costs 4. This means that lots of times when you level up, you get no benefits at all, because you Only have 2, of the 3/4 points you need, and have to wait another god damn level to get any benefits at all. This means that fighting isnt as it should be, because your not really gaining any levels. The boosts they provide are retarded "+15.00% to health" which gives me like 12 hp. Yippe. "+5.00%" to damage...I dont see any effect, and I dont even know what fucking damage I do in the first place.
Dialogs - This is mostly the same between Mass Effect, and its sequel. But the big issue is that in the second one, after you as a question, it doesnt go away, and alot of the time, you just keep getting the same script repeated to you... Lazy on their part.
One thing that I did like is that they removed the Mecho gameplay. That thing was 100% OP, and really just wasted lots of my time trying to get over a fucking mountain. Also, the fact that you can do paragon stuff during talking. Of course, when you can do it is predetermined, and doesnt ever change, options to do paragon still exist at 100% regenade, and vice versa, and you can only do renegade sometimes, and paragon other times. Pointless.
All in all, the stripped out alot of the RPG elements, making it around 90% a shooter game with lots of dialog, a crummy weapon and ammo system.
That really doesn't seem all too much more enjoyable, I play Single Player games when I'm alone, since it's a game made for one person at a time, if I'm going to be interacting with other people. setting up a lan and playing like Diablo 2 or some MMO would seem more fun.
Also, not everyone has a hard on for Oblivion.
I also enjoy the competition of multiplayer games alot more then playing a single player game, but you cant just discredit it automatically for everyone. Hence why I offered both types of games in my recommendation. I dont know what he enjoys, so I try to offer many different things.
And also, EVERYONE should have a hard on for oblivion.
