Does anybody know if this still happens or have they fixed that bug (/removed that 'feature'?)
Is there still a maximum number of on-hand neopoints?

I also think it was a self-imposed limit by neopets -- I know none of the datatypes wrap around anywhere near that number and 50m was quite a lot back then so it could have just been a blanket protection against hackers/exploits.
I'd test it out but I'm a little scared of losing 50m.

Mostly just curiosity anyways, don't see any reason I'd need to have 50m+ on hand any time soon. Plus knowing my luck I'd be hit by the Angry Tax Best the first refresh out of the bank.

I'd believe that. Like Seed mentioned, the top range for a 32-bit signed integer is ±2,147,483,647 -- any higher than that and it would wrap-around.

If i had 2.1 billion I'd invest 500million for an epic screen shot & the bragging rights that go with it.

O.O 170 PCCS wowSomeone on the BD Chat the other day was saying that the maximum is just ofer 2.1 billion on hand and 2.1 billion in the bank {and they have tested this theory}. Anymore than this and it's impossible to make neopoints - they just disappear - then they were crapping on how you leave 2 billion in your bank and then just use the interest everyday to buy battledome items and horde them in your SDB. Apparently Brian has 170 PCCs.

And, why the hell would they need a signed integer? Your amount of NP on hand cant go below zero, so the cap would be at. 4,294,967,295.
Given that, why wouldnt they just use a different storage type then integer anyways? I'm assuming they are using a 64 bit server....

4,294,967,295 / 2 = the number he said.
bank = 1
nps on hand = 1
1+1 = 2.
all seems to add up in my eyes.

Amount on hand != amount in bank.
And, I know for a fact, you can have more then 2.1 billion in your bank.

& I dunno man. I'm just going by what I heard and it all seems to make sense. The numbers match up.

The on-hand NP can definitely go below 0 NP.

As I said, my only experience with amounts of NP that high was years and years ago when I found an exploit that allowed generation of any amount of NP at the click of a button, and I noticed above a certain amount (somewhere between 40 and 55 million) it simply reset to 0.
I very vaguely remember people on BD chat causing quite a stir when somebody ran into that cap legitimately but beyond that I'm not really sure.
Only reason this was on my mind was because I was trying to track down an item worth ~50m (which I'm never going to find!
Either way, thanks for the input!

People used to take advantage of the cap for expensive items going through auctions like K-lens. It'd go up for 10 mill 10 mill increasements and because you couldn't have more than 40 - 50 million it'd be hard to bid the amount you want. You could only have 30 - 40 out and bid then when you got outbid you'd be fucked on and have to withdraw more until you hit the limit.

I think that's usually in the 5 million to 10 million range.

I can think of at least one reason someone would want that much NP on hand. The adam avatar, I'm fairly sure that you can at least have that many neopoints on hand.
You don't need anywhere near that for Adam. A better reason is to have an insane score for Sloth's Invasion Tax. A 9 (or 10) digit score for Sloth's Invasion Tax really shows off your wealth more than everything else since you are willing to risk having billions out and wait for a single RE (and get nothing in return except a trophy and an insane high score).

I think only having a couple of million on hand is usually sufficient to get a trophy in Sloth's Invasion or Angry Tax Beast
