That's like $460 and it's just junk.

L2Moneyconversion

That thing is 460 EUROS, meaning it's actually more expensive when converted to USA or Canadian currency.

Besides, one mans trash is another mans treasure, you might not be a geek, but other people are.

Gaming is an expensive hobby, but I still purchase every game I want to play, and the consoles alone get really expensive.

Yeah, very very true. Consoles + the games + add-ons like expansion packs and such all add up. That's a hobby though. You do it to have fun and when you're bored it keeps you amused. If you purchased this expensive collectors item I'd be super reluctant to play it due to the risk of damaging it thus destroying it's value. It's kind of a 'sit back and admire' item. Some people build & collect model planes which Is like two birds with one stone. A hobby + a collection.

You guys have way too much money. xD

Sometimes its about nostalgia and remembering how awesome the item was back in the day it was brand new.

I've had more fun playing Mariokart n64 on my Wii off their virtual store, than I have playing actual Wii games.

That's because the Wii games cater to casual players and aren't as enjoyable in the long run, everything is too easy in Mario Kart Wii.

Really? I just found MarioKart Wii a bit less exciting to play. It's nowhere near as engaging as Mariokart64.

Indeed it is, manually drifting got hosed for one, and that's what made me love games like Double Dash and Mario Kart DS. Overall it's just an easier game, you can be in last place and get an item and zoom up to first in a matter of seconds, and something like that was near impossible in MK64 if the leader was too far ahead.

Yeah it's, it's one of those criticisms people have of the game itself- the computer characters can catchup from half a track back to 2nd, wheras if one character shoots out to the lead, then the human can never catch up. The computer also didn't really suffer when it was hit by an item unlike the human players. I agree it's not always fair the way the game plays, but I still find it more fun than the Wii or GC Double Dash.

That's what separates the boys from the men, and that's what I liked about it, if you didn't have the skill, you couldn't take on the harder races.

Yeah, the whole 'sliding' thing sounds awesome, I heard about it on the sites where the top players post their times.

Have you unlocked the backwards tracks?

Mirror Mode? Probably, but I don't have my copy anymore, can't really check.

    It's British Pounds, not Euros.

    460.00 GBP = 691.686 USD

You can drift if you play with a GC controller, which I always do :p

Yo Sweeney - what ever happened to the gamecubes? I saw them around and then what seemed like overnight nowhere stocked anything to do with them [this is all years ago mind you].

Nintendo stopped making games for them, they released the Wii, and it became obsolete, that's about it.

No I mean like, before the Wii was released. It was just a few months after the Gamecube was released it kind of died in the arse. Didn't see any new stock released for it to keep the public interested in Nintendo. Everyone either went to Xbox or PS2.

Must just have been your area. Support for the GC was pretty strong right up to Wii-time, at which point it was dropped unusually fast for a last-gen console.

Some retailers did drop out of GC contracts, though, because of low sales, I believe. Mostly places like Blockbuster and Woolworths, as far as I know all dedicated game shops continued to carry stock.

It was a failure v the PS2 and okay against the Xbox.

    140 million - PS2
    24 million - Xbox
    22 million - GC

Not as bigger failure as the Atari Jaguar (Club Drive....LOL) but it sold a lot less units than both of its competitors.

The internals on a GC are pretty much the same to a Wii. If you want to play GC, buy a Wii ;)
So far I'm finding the GC games are actually better than the Wii games.

BTW...Club Drive is actually a hideous game, and I can't not link to this review and post an image of its ugliness

    Attached File  club_drive.jpg   15.4KB   2 downloads
Truly one of the lows in video game history.

Club Drive has invented its own bizarre set of rules where a high impact causes your car to levitate into the air, fly around for a little bit, flip over onto its wheels and gently float back down to the floor. It's hard to say whether it's a glimpse into the future of driving or just someone being an idiot.

    lulz at this

I love that guy. He's the best console game reviewer I know, I can sit on the site for hours rereading everything he wrote on games twice a year.

And I did play Clubdrive on an emulator- and it was horrible (just as he described, but more awful than just bad physics, as moving the ugly car is hard enough).
