I wonder if the time updates exactly at 29:59.999 ect.

would really doubt that because all auctions start at different times

although am very excited at the mention of this topic. something major is in the works!

In theory if a progam could notice the change from 2 hours to 30 minutes, to Less than 30 minutes, it could then give a precise idea of how long left that trade has

Although I'm unsure how that could be done, just a suggestion that popped into my head

I think it changes at random times though.
I've seen auctions put up at 30 min-2 hr and they all changed at different rates.
(for example the one put up later would change first before the first one)

Rather than have it go off time remaining on an auctioned item (saying as nobody knows this to bid against) couldn't you just say refresh between 6-14 seconds and if you've been outbid bid by this much again? maybe time it so that when you see the <30min pop increase the refresh rate for 15 mins? also you know once that items hit the front page it will only have a couple minutes left on it max...
