So, recently I'm thinking of starting my own website, or atleast able to do a layout or whatever, no idea what is for though. Maybe for my own portfolio, just practicing skills, whatever.
However, I suck at html, and stuff. I can't even code properly on neopets, and so I need to get some help. I'm thinking of start learning proper html and php and script and.. whatever it takes to make those pretty layouts. Anyone have those, 'making a website for noobs' websites where they tell you how to code from start? or maybe even a personal teacher but I doubt >.>

Also, I've heard adobe programs that can help you? If so do you recommend anything?

I'm good for the graphics part, I'm somewhat pro on photoshop :p

Thanks guys! Waiting for your opinions :p

Maybe you need to learn to make good searches? XD
I dunno man, google's pretty ballin'. Especially when it's compared to other search engines.

If you want to get started on html/css, I suggest you google up some starter guides for html/css to learn the basics/syntax.
WW3Schools is a very helpful reference and it also lets you play with html/css on the site.

After you know what's going on, go on neopets and look through site/pet page spotlights and use view source to look at other people's code to see how they do stuff.
Or find those free user lookups/pet page designs and figure out their code, use it on your pet page, make changes that you want.
Slowly, you'll be familiar with it.

My interest in web design sprouted out of neopets user lookups and pet pages, and the above process was how I got started.

Learning it isn't hard, just takes some time and effort.

    Good luck. =)

Well do you know how to make one by yourself?
Because a lot of those petpages are basically templates for a website.
Most css websites are very similar to the good petpages out there, i.e., only div tags in the html section while css does all the positioning.
Maybe they seem limited because they are only one page, but essentially a website is multiple pages of the same page.
Unless by limited, you mean it's static and doesn't change - in that case you need to learn far more than html/css. XD
I also have another awe-inspiring website for you.
Google csszengarden, you will find amazing pure css websites. Though the syntax in those are getting a bit old. But they are still amazing.
If you use google chrome and have a relatively modern pc, then google thewildernessdowntown. It's made with the new HTML5 and it's kickass.
Heck, if you google HTML5 sites, you'll get some pretty amazing stuff.

But yeah, I still use ww3schools for reference sometimes. =p

I googled "html guide neopets" lol
You gotta get better googling skills

Also, this is pretty much the basic stuff, but when your talking about making your own website you're going to want to learn CSS. I have a website I made out of CSS, but staring and the code isn't going to help.

The way I taught myself was just by tinkering with code I found at this website: http://www.w3schools.com/css/

    Good luck.

Okay, for the most info on that petpage I know, like how to start a paragraph and something like <br>, and how to make things bold, making tables, I know the basics. I'm looking for more advanced, something simliar to how you can have different sections on a petpage, etc. That's for neopets. I'm looking for something like codes a entirely webpage outside of neopets.

HTML5 adds onto the previous HTML4. lol.

Seems pretty ballin' but I haven't gotten a chance to go through it yet.

I completely forgot about that place.

As for creating websites with photoshop, people use Dreamweaver.
Oh and seriously, you do fucking suck at using google or any other search engine of your choice. You could have easily found what you are looking for.

    :D
I thought I was the only one... hahaha. =)

You don't necessarily need Dreamweaver to make html/css websites out of PSDs.
It's like a really good notepad++ for html/css for me... lol. But I don't know how to use it to its fullest.

There are a lot of tutorials out there teaching how to convert PSDs to html/css.
http://net.tutsplus....gory/tutorials/ has a lot of relevant stuff for that, for starters. =p

    Tss, html far from dead.

Dreamweaver by adobe is amazing and if you know a little about how general code works you can manipulate their code pretty well.

When i was learning css/html I went through amazon.com and found the books I thought would be best and then googled the names + rapidshare and found places I could download them for free. Some books you just can't find but I ended up with about 10 full books published in the last 2 years that were all excellent.

Awardspace has some pretty excellent features for free hosted accounts. I have my own domain and use them to host it for free.

webreference.com is an amazing site for a lot of different coding resources. It doesn't seem to have been updated in a while, but their tutorials will walk you straight through making general websites (2 column, 3 column, etc, etc). With the walk throughs they do a great job of explaining what the code they are having you enter does and if coding isn't your thing you will end with a good idea of how to edit it to make it look like you want it to.

Dreamweaver coddles your through everything, it's great for beginners. Personally though, I hate it.

You'll want to become somewhat proficient in HTML/CSS/Javascript before you move on to a scripting language like PHP. I've uploaded a couple of books which may help you.
