I plan to work as an electrical engineer. EEs basically design electrical systems. Some work in high-power industries, some work designing micro/nano-electronics, some work in telecommunications designing antennas and equipment, some work in signal processing, etc..
It's a versatile profession with a lot of potential paths. I think I plan to do some electronics/systems engineering in the telecommunications sector. That would involve designing high-frequency electrical circuits (maybe even optical systems!), possibly design antennas, etc. For example, a company I would love to work (based on the work I believe they do) is COM DEV in Canada, which specializes in designing space satellites and all the stuff in them. I would be living my childhood dream in a way since I wanted to do something space-related as a kid.
I'm planning to do a MS degree (two more years) in EE after I graduate from my BS this year though. These are my reasons:
a) Many entry-level jobs in the field I want to enter prefer a masters graduate. It usually says this right in the job advertisement.
b) Right now is a convenient time for me to do two more years of school. Not much is tying me down.
c) I enjoy what I'm doing, even though the workload is sometimes crazy, and I want to get very good at it.
d) MS holders tend to get compensated more for their work, though if I were offered the same wages as a BS it would definitely not be a deal-breaker.
e) It's an opportunity to do some original research and maybe contribute something useful to academia, which is always neat.
Also, please don't confuse that with 'electrician' since that's happened so many times. Electricians do very little design.
